President Abbas concludes official visit to Cyprus

President Mahmoud Abbas today concluded his three-day official visit to Cyprus.

During his visit, President Abbas commenced his visit with a meeting with his Cypriot counterpart Nicos Anastasiades at the presidential palace in Nicosia.

He also held separate meetings with the leader of the Democratic Rally Party, Averof Neofytou, leader of DIKO Party, Nikolas Papadopoulos, General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefano as well as with the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II.

He laid a wreath at the tomb of Makarios III, the Archbishop of the Church of Cyprus who served as the first president of the Republic of Cyprus, championed the liberation of Cyprus from British rule and became revered as a symbol of struggle against colonialism.

On the sidelines of the visit, Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister Riyad al-Malki and his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides signed a memorandum of understanding and a cooperation agreement on bilateral relations, coordination on equality and women empowerment, and cooperation on diplomatic training, among other fields.
