Prime Minister Shtayyeh calls for measures to stop incitement by Israeli officials against Palestinians

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, March 22, 2023 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh today called on France and other countries to take measures to stop the incitement by extremist Israeli officials against the Palestinian people, and not give them platforms to express their racism. In a meeting with the French Consul General in Jerusalem, Rene Trokaz, at his Ramallah office, the Prime Minister also welcomed the statement of the French Foreign Ministry, which denounced the statements of the racist Israeli cabinet minister Bezalel Smotrich in Paris in which he denied the existence of the Palestinian people. “The extremist ministers in the Israeli government represent an upward trend in Israel, pushing towards more settlements, killings, and destroying the possibility of the two-state solution,” said Shtayyeh. The prime minister also strongly condemned the Israeli parliament’s, Knesset, canceling of the 2005 ‘Disengagement Law’ that ended Israeli settlers’ presence in four settlements in the north of the occupied West Bank. “The Knesset’s approval of the law abolishing the Disengagement Law, which allows the return to four settlements in the West Bank, means a decision to reoccupy the West Bank, as it coincides with more incursions, killings, and land confiscation,” said Shtayyeh. The Prime Minister renewed a call on France to recognize Palestine, considering that this is the right time to protect the two-state solution and for France to be a model for other European countries.
