Protesting ban on family visit, Palestinian political prisoners in Israel refuse to accept meal

Palestinian prisoners in Israel today refused to accept their meals as a first step to protest an Israel Prison Service (IPS) ban on family visits, which started since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in March of last year, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).

It said in a statement that the prisoners may escalate their protest steps at a later time depending on the IPS response to their demand.

It explained that there is no longer any excuse for the IPS to continue preventing family visits, especially since the majority of the prisoners received the corona vaccine, as well as for their families, noting that the IPS has been trying since the outbreak of the pandemic to turn this exceptional measure associated with the pandemic to a permanent one in order to strip prisoners of their rights and entrench violations against them.

The PPS called on the International Red Cross to do what is necessary to resume family visits to the prisoners.
