UNHRC adopts two resolutions on Palestinian people’s rights, Israeli colonial settlements

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) today adopted two resolutions on the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights and Israeli colonial settlements.

In its 52nd session convened in Geneva and under agenda item 7, UNHRC adopted by an overwhelming majority draft resolution A/HRC/52/L.32 on the inalienable, permanent and unqualified right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including their right to live in freedom, justice and dignity and the right to their independent.

Forty one UNHRC member states voted in favor of the resolution, three, namely Cameron, Lithuania and Romania abstained, and three others, namely Czechia, the United States of America (USA) and the United Kingdom (UK), voted against it.

UNHRC also adopted by an overwhelming majority draft resolution A/HRC/52/L.42 on the Israeli colonial settlements established since 1967 in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in the occupied Syrian Golan.

Thirty eight UNHRC voted in favor of the resolution, five, namely Cameron, Georgia, Lithuania, Romania and Ukraine, abstained and four others, namely Czechia, Malawi, USA and UK, voted against it.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry thanked all UNHRC member states that voted in favor of the draft resolutions and considered their vote as message to the Israeli fascist government that its crimes would not go unpunished and that the Palestinian people would exercise their inalienable rights, notably the right to self-determination, throughout the territories of the State of Palestine, free of colonial settlements.

It called on all member states to shoulder their responsibilities in terms of exposing Israeli crimes and human rights violations while expressing total rejection of the positions of member states that voted against the draft resolutions, slamming them for continuing to act in a selective manner, applying double-standard policies and being hypocrite in terms of exposing Israeli crimes and holding Israel, the occupying power accountable.

It considered the failure to take tangible steps against Israeli human rights violations and voting against the draft resolutions as a dark stain in the record of such states and as tantamount to aiding, abetting and participation in such crimes as well as an act of sabotage of the law-based international multilateral system.

It further called on the international community to take serious and practical steps to confront Israeli crimes and illegal practices, including confiscation of weapons, enforcement of criminal sanctions and ensuring full accountability for and prevention of all acts of settler terrorism.

It also called them to take other measures to guarantee safety and protection of Palestinian civilians and property and enable the victims of settler violence have access to justice and effective remedies.

It concluded by stressing that the tragic reality imposed by Israel should neither be recognized nor sustained and sanctions should be imposed on Israel’s regime of settler-colonialism and apartheid pending holding it accountable and dismantling it.
