US Congresswoman calls on Biden administration to stop Israeli evictions and demolitions of Palestinian homes

US Congresswoman Marie Newman, Democrat from Illinois, yesterday called on the Biden administration to do everything in its power to stop Israeli eviction of Palestinians from their homes and demolition of Palestinian homes in occupied Jerusalem.

“We’ve seen disturbing reports of demolition orders for Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem,” tweeted Representative Newman.

“No one should ever be forcibly removed from their home.

“I spoke today on the house floor to urge the Biden admin to do everything in their power to stop these evictions and demolitions.”

Newman had previously called on the US State Department to condemn Israeli measures against Palestinian residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem and posted a video about the seizure of Palestinian homes by settlers under the hashtag “Save Sheikh Jarrah.”

She had also criticized Israel for excluding millions of Palestinians from its plan to vaccinate Israelis against coronavirus, stressing that Israel was morally and humanitarianly obligated to ensure that the vaccine reaches Palestinians living under occupation.

It should be noted that US State Department deputy spokeswoman Jalina Porter said two days ago that the United States urges Israel to stop the demolition of Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem.

“We believe it is important to refrain from any steps that may increase tensions and make diplomatic agreements more difficult, and this also applies to home demolitions,” Porter said in a press conference.
