Water Ministry discusses UNICEF’s support for water, environment sector

Deputy Minister of Water and Environment, Honein Al-Duraib, chaired on Saturday a meeting in Sana’a to discuss cooperation and coordination with UNICEF and ways to support the water and environmental sanitation sectors.

At the meeting, which included Omar Al-Hattab, the Water and Environmental Sanitation Consultant at UNICEF’s main office in New York, the procedures for providing fuel support to water and sanitation institutions, such as implementing alternative energy projects to operate water pumping stations and sewage treatment, were reviewed, in addition to the possibility of raising the ceiling of support for sanitation projects in urban cities and rural areas, according to an agreement signed with UNICEF.

The meeting also focused on the support that could be provided by UNICEF for establishing caravans (rainwater collection pools) to feed water basins to preserve groundwater and rainwater harvesting projects, as well as UNICEF’s intervention in rehabilitating the facilities of the Ministry of Water and Environment and restoring the infrastructure that was targeted by the aggression’s warplanes.

The Deputy Minister of Water appreciated UNICEF’s interventions and support, affirming that UNICEF is a partner and main supporter of the water and environmental sanitation sectors.

For his part, Al-Hattab confirmed UNICEF’s keenness to coordinate with those concerned in the water and environmental sanitation sectors to support efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people in light of the current conditions.
