Egypt condemns Israeli government’s decision to approve the construction of colonial units in the West Bank

CARIO: The Arab Republic of Egypt condemned the Israeli government’s decision to approve the construction of about 3,500 new colonial units.

It said in a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry that the decision reflects a deepening policy of illegal colonization, and a violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions and the provisions of international law.

The Ministry also considered that Israel’s continued policy of annexation and seizure of Palestinian lands would not change the legal, historical and demographic status of those lands, calling for the need to stop those practices that undermine efforts for a just settlement of the Palestinian issue.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry called on international parties to adopt a strong position that rejects the policy of colonialism and confirms its illegitimacy. It also called on the Security Council to assume its responsibility to stop Israeli violations of international law and international humanitarian law against the Palestinian people.

The Ministry further called for providing protection for the Palestinian people, protecting their inalienable rights, and support recognition of the Palestinian state. On the 1967 borders, its capital is East Jerusalem.
