Weather instability, scattered rain showers expected across Jordan on Sunday

Amman: A gradual onset of atmospheric instability is forecast across Jordan on Sunday, with varying altitudes witnessing an increase in cloud cover. The Kingdom anticipates scattered rain showers in different regions, with the potential for heavy downpours, particularly in the eastern areas. These showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, raising concerns of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas.

As the night progresses, the impact of atmospheric instability and rainfall is expected to diminish. Winds will moderate in speed, shifting direction from northeast to northwest intermittently, potentially causing dust storms, particularly in desert regions, leading to reduced horizontal visibility.

The Jordan Meteorological Department has issued warnings regarding the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying regions, especially in the east, as well as the possibility of slippery road conditions and reduced visibility due to dust, particularly in desert and desert road areas.

On Monday, temp
eratures are expected to remain cold in most areas, with mild conditions forecast for the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Low-level clouds are expected, with scattered rain showers in the morning across northern Jordan and parts of the central regions. Westerly winds will prevail, ranging from moderate to active speeds.

Tuesday is expected to see a rise in temperatures, with pleasant spring weather prevailing across most regions. Warm conditions are forecast for the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba, with active westerly winds potentially causing dust storms, especially in desert areas.

In terms of temperatures for today, East Amman is expected to see maximum and minimum temperatures ranging between 14 – 7 degrees Celsius today, while West Amman will experience temperatures of 12 – 5 degrees Celsius. The northern highlands will range between 11 – 4 degrees Celsius, the Sharah Mountains between 13 – 3 degrees Celsius, and the Gulf of Aqaba between 25 – 12 degrees Celsius.

Palestinian human rights organizations denounce ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza’s hospitals

Gaza: As the Israeli military aggression against the Gaza Strip began its 170th day, Palestinian human rights organizations denounced the ongoing airstrikes by the Israeli military on hospitals and communities designated as safe zones in the Gaza Strip.

Human rights organizations said in a statement released on Sunday that since the start of Israeli military aggression against the Gaza Strip, the occupation forces have intentionally targeted the Strip’s healthcare system. They have also been practicing the systematic destruction and targeting of hospitals and health centers for the past few months, and the current situation confirms that they are attempting to thwart any attempts to resume partial work in them, insisting on depriving the population of access to healthcare.

The organizations urged the international community to take action to put an end to the occupying state’s crime of genocide against the 2.3 million Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip. This included forcing them to flee their homes in c
onditions devoid of even the most basic human rights, executing them where they were forced to relocate, and waging a campaign of collective punishment symbolized by starvation and thirst.

Additionally, they urged the international community to act decisively and swiftly in order to compel the Israeli occupation state to halt its aggression and carry out the rulings of the International Court of Justice, which has the duty to stop genocide from occurring. They also urged it to take action that will protect the lives of civilians in the Gaza Strip, both male and female, and to cease its use of collective punishment, which is prohibited by all international and humanitarian laws.

Israeli authorities will no longer approve any food convoys to northern Gaza: UNRWA chief

Amman: Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini said that the Israeli authorities informed the UN that they will no longer approve any UNRWA food convoys to the north of Gaza.

“Gaza: as of today, UNRWA, the main lifeline for Palestine refugees, is denied from providing lifesaving assistance to northern Gaza,” Lazzarini said in a post on his official X account.

“Despite the tragedy unfolding under our watch, the Israeli Authorities informed the UN that they will no longer approve any UNRWA food convoys to the north,” Lazzarini added.

“This is outrageous and makes it intentional to obstruct lifesaving assistance during a man made famine. These restrictions must be lifted,” Lazzarini underlined.

UNRWA is the largest organisation with the highest reach to displaced communities in Gaza. By preventing UNRWA to fulfill its mandate in Gaza, the clock will tick faster towards famine and many more will die of hunger, dehydr
ation + lack of shelter.

This cannot happen, it would only stain our collective humanity,” the UNRWA chief concluded.

Public Works Minister receives Jordan’s World Bank Country Director

Amman: Minister of Public Works and Housing, Maher Abu Al Sammen, met on Sunday with the World Bank Country Director for Jordan, Holly Benner.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Ministry’s Secretary General, Jamal Qutaishat, Abu Al Sammen highlighted the plans and strategies for developing the road network in the Kingdom and implementing public-private partnership projects, stressing the importance of the partnership between the World Bank and Jordan in various fields.

Abu Al Sammen praised the Bank’s cooperation in preparing plans and strategies for developing the roads and infrastructure sector in the Kingdom, in addition to contributing to providing the necessary technical support to the government to implement public-private partnership projects aimed at creating and maintaining the road network, given the high costs that the government pays to develop the road network and the inability to provide the necessary funding for it, whether for maintaining existing roads or building new ones.

Abu
Al Sammen also commended the World Bank’s support for road network development projects in the Kingdom, such as the Road Asset Management System project, which is funded by the Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Inclusive Growth and Economic Opportunities in Jordan, which will contribute to raising the effectiveness of planning and implementing maintenance work and prioritizing road maintenance according to the precise condition of the road network.

He stressed the need to proceed with the procedures for adopting the performance-based road maintenance contracts document, as this type of contract aims to manage the maintenance of the road network through financial support to involve the private sector in routine and emergency road maintenance in light of the limited financial resources allocated to the road maintenance and sustainability sector.

For her part, Benner lauded Jordan’s ability to fulfill its obligations and implement plans and strategies, stressing that the World Bank is working continuously with the Jo
rdanian government to provide support for the establishment of infrastructure projects and provide technical support for preparing the necessary studies and technical plans in the transport and infrastructure sector.
