King commends role of Southern Badia figures in Jordan’s development

Wadi Rum: His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday commended the distinguished role of Southern Badia leaders and figures in Jordan’s establishment and progress.

Speaking at a meeting with local community leaders and figures from the Southern Badia region, held in Wadi Rum, His Majesty said the visit reminded him of his military service in the 40th King Hussein bin Talal Royal Armoured Brigade in Qatraneh.

The King said the Southern Badia is rich with distinctive tourist sites, adding that sunsets in Wadi Rum are like no other in the world, and that the area has become an international tourist attraction.

His Majesty highlighted projects established in the Southern Badia throughout the past years in key sectors.

Attendees at the meeting, held as part of His Majesty’s outreach visits to the governorates and Badia areas on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee, highlighted achievements under the King’s leadership over the past 25 years, in political, administrative, tourism, and agricultural fields, as well as i
n the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army.

Upon arrival at the meeting in Wadi Rum, His Majesty was welcomed by a poetry performance.

The King joined attendees for iftar and performed the Maghreb prayer.

The gathering also included poetry and a traditional As-Samer performance.

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Adviser to His Majesty for Tribal Affairs Kneiaan Bluwi attended the meeting.

110,000 convicted of drug-related crimes in Jordan-Statistics

Amman: 125,765 people convicted of various types of drug crimes were tried at State Security Court (SSC) during the last four years.

Out of this total figure, 110,425 suspects were found guilty of drug crimes, including three who carried 314 kilograms of cocaine from South America to sell to their victims in Jordan.

Over the course of 223 days, which began on May 25, 2023, and ended at beginning of March of 2024, “Petra” investigated these cases at Jordan’s courts and found that between 2020 and 2023, the SSC convicted more than 110,000 people of drug crimes involoving trafficking, possession, and promotion, with an average conviction of 75 people per day in Jordan.

During 4 years, “Petra” found that 110,425 convicts of drug crimes carried and concealed 26,336,380 narcotic pills, 19,143 kilograms of hashish, 329 kilograms of cocaine, 91 kilograms of hashish, and 684 kilograms of marijuana.

In the years extending from 2020 until February 13 of 2024, the SSC examined 83,515 drug cases, at a rate of 20,878 c
ases per year.

Additionally, the SSC issued rulings against 110,425 people for drug crimes between the years 2020 and 2023 out of 125,765 defendants.

The rate of those convicted suspects during these years reached 92% and prison sentences reached up to 30 years and death penalty in cases that involved

Delivery of a project to health sector in Hajjah


The Health Office in Hajjah governorate and the local council in Mustaba District received from the branch of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the governorate a project in the health sector.

The project, which benefits 5,200 beneficiaries, includes the construction of a 3-room health center with facilities and furniture, at a cost of $24,664.

Youth and Communications Ministers inaugurate Ramadan Football Forum for Al-Aqsa Flood Cup


The Minister of Youth, Sports and Communications in the caretaker government, Muhammad Hussein Al-Muaydi and Engineer Misfer Al-Numair, inaugurated Ramadan Football Forum Championship for centers in the 15-year-old category, organized by the Talented Football School, sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and funded by the Youth Fund.

Ten sports teams bearing the names of Palestinian cities will participate in the forum, which will last until the 24th of Ramadan. They were divided into two groups, the first of which included (Jerusalem – Nablus – Gaza – Hebron – Bir Al-Sara’a) and the second included teams (Ramallah – Khan Yunis – Rafah – Jenin – Haifa), competing for Al-Aqsa Flood Cup on the stadiums of Al-Thawra Sports City.

It resulted by, Jenin topped the group with four points, a goal difference from Khan Younis II, and the Ramallah team came third with 3 points.

The forum’s competitions will continue today with two matches in the first group, where Al-Quds team will face Nablus and Gaza team will play wi
th Hebron. As for the second group, it will witness two matches, the first bringing together Ramallah with Rafah, and Khan Yunis with Haifa.

The inauguration of the forum was attended by the Undersecretary of the Sports Sector, Ali Hadban, the Secretary-General of the State Youth Award, Aziz Al-Maori, the directors of sports activity, Issam Dereban, the specific activity, Abdul Wahab Al-Hawani, and the sports activity of the Youth Fund, Hamza Saleh.

Yemen Thabat Foundation branch in Raymah distributes food basket to Almoravid families


The branch of the Yemen Thabat Development Foundation in Raymah province inaugurated the fifth phase of distributing the food basket to the families of Almoravid people of the province on the fronts of pride and dignity.

During the inauguration, the Director of the Foundation’s branch in the province, Ahmed Bishr, explained that the fifth phase distribution project on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan targets the families of the stationed army heroes on the fronts of pride and dignity.

He considered distributing the food basket the least duty towards the sacrifices made by the army heroes for the sake of God and defending the homeland, its security and its independence.

Bishr called on financiers, businessmen, and philanthropists to cooperate with the Foundation to provide the necessary support to the stationed people and their families in a way that embodies the values and principles of social solidarity and alleviate their suffering in light of the current stage.

Agriculture Minister emphasizes significance of growing fish industry

Amman: Agriculture Minister Khalid Hneifat emphasized the need to maintain efforts to grow the fish sector and increase self-sufficiency rates.

In a meeting with the head of the Association of Fish Breeders and Marine Biology, Ziad Atallah, and association members, Hneifat underlined that in order to assist the local fish product’s marketing strategy, it is imperative that work in the fish market be completed as soon as feasible.

He underscored the Ministry’s willingness to collaborate on any upcoming initiatives that stem from its objective to advance the industry.

In response, Atallah welcomed the ministry’s support and direct interest in overcoming problems and providing a proper environment for investment in the sector and its development.

He acknowledged the rapid progress made at the central fish market as well as the long-term viability of the ministry’s collaboration.

According to Hneifat, the Ministry’s prompt action and thorough follow-up aided in the sector’s growth and development, which rais
ed the percentage of locally farmed fish that were self-sufficient.

Inauguration of construction of two roads in Taiz


The local authority, in Taiz governorate, launched the distribution of cement and gasoline for two road construction and paving projects in the Sharaab Al-Salam and Al-Ta’ziyah districts.

Gaza death toll up to 32,782 victims

Gaza: Israeli occupation committed 8 massacres against Gaza families, killing 77 Gazans and injuring 108 others during the past 24 hours, Ministry of Health in Gaza said.

In the daily statistical report on Gaza causalities by the ongoing Israeli aggression for the 177th day, the ministry indicated that a number of Gazan victims are still under rubble and on roads as Israel bars access of ambulance and civil defense crews to them.

To date, death toll of the Israeli aggression on Gaza rose to 32,782 martyrs and 75,298 injuries since last October 7, the ministry pointed out.

Armed Forces Conduct 10 Humanitarian Airdrops in Gaza


Amman: The Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army, conducted Sunday 10 humanitarian and food aid airdrops across various locations in the northern Gaza Strip, with the involvement of 6 supportive nations.

Participating in this mission were two aircraft from the Royal Jordanian Air Force, alongside planes from Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, the United States (four aircraft), Germany, and Britain.

This effort reflects Jordan’s ongoing commitment to offer additional assistance to Gaza residents during Ramadan, symbolizing the cooperative bond and solidarity between the two nations.

The Armed Forces underscore their continuous provision of humanitarian and medical support, either through airlifts from Marka Airport to El Arish International Airport, airdrops over Gaza, or ground convoys.

The tally of airdrops conducted by the Jordan Armed Forces since the onset of Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip now stands at 65 from Jordanian resources and 119 in collaboration with allied nations.
