A gang specializing in trade with antiquities arrested after trying to sell an antiquity in Baghdad

The Baghdad Intelligence and Security Directorate announced today, Thursday, the overthrow of a gang consisting of 3 suspects specialized in antiquities trade, after they tried to sell an antiquity in the capital.

The Directorate stated in a statement: “The operation was carried out after obtaining the necessary judicial approvals and luring them into an elaborate ambush, which resulted in their arrest in flagrante delicto, and they were in their possession a confiscated artifact.”

It added: “The detachments arrested two suspects on charges of trading and promoting drug materials and electronic extortion, through their presence in the Karrada area in Baghdad, where one of them was threatening girls through social media programs and blackmailing them in exchange for sums of money.”

It continued: “The detachments of the Intelligence and Security Directorate of Babylon were also able to seize an accused in his possession a counterfeit currency estimated at (10) million dinars that was hidden inside a vehicle, through an elaborate ambush placed on the highway in the Nile district.”
