Cancer-stricken prisoner transferred to hospital following grave deterioration

Critically ill and cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner in Israel, Nasser Abu Hmeid, was transferred today evening to Assaf Harofeh hospital in Israel following a serious deterioration in his health, said the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

PPS, in a brief statement, said that Abu Hmeid’s immune system has sharply deteriorated, which necessitated his transfer to the hospital.

Nasser Abu Hmeid, 49, from Amari refugee camp in Ramallah who has been in prison since 2002 and serving seven life terms plus 50 years for his resistance of the Israeli occupation, is suffering from lung cancer.

The occupation stalls in providing treatment for prisoners, including the deliberate indifference in neglecting and procrastinating in delivering necessary treatment and much-needed surgeries.
