Invitations to be soon sent out to all PLO Central Council members to attend the session set for February 6

Invitations are going to be sent out in the next 24 hours to all 141 members of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Central Council, the second-highest Palestinian decision making body after the National Council, to attend its session scheduled for February 6, today said Mohammad Sbeih, the secretary of the National Council.

He told the official Voice of Palestine radio that the invitations will be sent out to all the Palestinian factions members in the PLO, the representative of the Palestinian people everywhere.

On the agenda of the Central Council is several political issues related to Jerusalem, prisoners, Israeli violations, settlements, and the next political steps that are currently being discussed by the factions in preparation to present one agreed-on position to the plenary meeting for final approval.

The members will also elect new members to fill vacant posts in the PLO’s Executive Committee and the National Council.

In an earlier meeting, Fatah’s Central Committee decided to name Rawhi Fattouh as speaker of the National Council replacing the veteran Salim Zanoun after serving as speaker since 1993.

The ruling Fatah movement, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, has been the dominant party in the national and central councils.;

The members had previously discussed including the Islamists Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations in the PLO that would give them a role in the two councils, but no agreement was reached on this.
