Israeli settlers, army attack rally protesting Israel’s seizure of land east of Tubas

Israeli settlers, under the protection of the Israeli army, attacked today evening a Palestinian march held in protest of Israel’s seizure of land to the east of Tubas for the benefit of establishing an illegal settlement outpost, according to WAFA correspondent.

Settlers reportedly attacked protesters, leading to clashes. Israeli forces present at the scene did nothing to stop the settlers and instead joined in on the attack, firing live and rubber-coated steel bullets, tear gas canisters and stun grenades towards protesters. No injuries were reported.

The establishment of settlements on the West Bank violates international humanitarian law, which establishes the principles applying during war and occupation. Moreover, the settlements lead to the infringement of international human rights law, said the Israeli information center for human rights in occupied territories, B’Tselem.

The establishment of the settlements leads to the violation of the rights of the Palestinians as enshrined in international human rights law. Among other violations, the settlements infringe the right to self-determination, equality, property, an adequate standard of living, and freedom of movement, said B’Tselem.
