Malki meets Irish counterpart in Dublin, discusses current situation in Palestine and bilateral relations

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad al-Malki, met today with the Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defense, Simon Coveney, on the sidelines of the conference organized by the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People held in Dublin, the capital of Ireland.

Malki stressed the depth of the relations between the two countries, and the State of Palestine’s endeavor to strengthen them in all fields, stressing the vital role that Ireland can play at the level of the peace process in the region.

Malki thanked Ireland for its stances in support of the Palestinian people at international forums and its consistent voting in favor of Palestine, in addition to its financial support and commitment to supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and its relentless efforts to provide material capabilities for the agency to carry out its tasks.

Malki briefed his Irish counterpart on the ongoing tragic situation in the Palestinian territories as a result of the Israeli occupation’s grave and serious violations of the Palestinian existence in a blatant violation of international norms and conventions, including its settlement construction policy, field killings, displacements, demolitions, and detentions, among others.

They also discussed Israel’s current declared position in rejection of undertaking any negotiations with the Palestinian leadership and its absolute rejection of the establishment of an independent state of Palestine on the pre-1967 borders.

For his part, the Irish minister expressed Ireland’s keenness to find a political horizon that contributes to solving the Palestinian issue, stressing Ireland’s consistent and supportive positions for the Palestinian people and their just cause, and its readiness to develop them in all fields.

He also stressed Ireland’s commitment to continue supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees (UNRWA).
