Ministry of Health report says 224 Palestinians were killed in 2022 by Israeli gunfire, 53 of them children

In its annual report on the Israeli aggression against Palestinians in 2022, the Ministry of Health said the Israeli army and settlers shot and killed 224 Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem (171), and Gaza Strip (53), including 53 children under 18 years of age and 17 females.

It said that eight of the dead were less than 10 years of age, 45 between 11 and 17 years, 108 between 18 and 29 years, 27 between 30 and 39, 19 between 40 and 49, 11 between 50 and 59, and five over 60.

According to the report, the month of August had the highest number of fatalities with 59 killed, followed by 31 in October, 23 in April, and 20 in November.

Also, 57 of those killed were in the Jenin Governorate in the north of the West Bank, 33 in Nablus Governorate, also in the north, 23 in Ramallah, 19 in Jerusalem, and 14 in Bethlehem and 13 Hebron in the south of the West Bank.

During the year 2022, the Palestinian Ministry of Health documented 10,587 Palestinian injuries by the Israeli occupation forces and settlers, especially during August when 589 injuries were recorded, in parallel to the Israeli escalation against civilians in the Gaza Strip. A total of 274 injuries were in October and 203 in April.

Of the injuries, 2,027 were transferred to hospitals, including 383 in the Gaza Strip and 1,644 treated at the West Bank hospitals, 45% of which were due to live bullets of whom 38% were at the upper parts of the body, which indicates the deliberate intention of killing or causing a serious injury, said the report. About four out of 10 live bullet injuries were children less than 18 years old.

In 2022, the Ministry of Health recorded 177 attacks against patients, medics and health facilities. It said 83 attacks impacted patients and injured people, 173 attacks impacted health personnel, 97 attacks were against ambulances and nine attacks targeted healthcare centers. Most of these attacks were in April and October.
