News about the slain Palestinian teen who was killed by Israeli gunfire in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Thursday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that a16-year-old Palestinian boy was shot and killed by Israeli gunfire during confrontations in the vicinity of Joseph’s Tomb in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus. They added that Ghaith Rafiq Yameen was critically injured after he was shot in the head by the Israeli occupation forces. He was taken to Rafidia hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The dailies said that 88 other Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated steel bullets while others suffered from suffocation due to inhaling tear gas fired at them by the Israeli soldiers during confrontations in the eastern area of Nablus.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that the head of the Israeli government’s military arm in the occupied West Bank, the so-called Civil Administration, signed on April 12 an order declaring about 22,000 dunums of Palestinian land south of the ancient city of Jericho as a “nature reserve”.
They noted that this is a huge reserve, the largest that has been declared for 25 years, said Peace Now. Referred to in Hebrew as “Nachal Og Nature Reserve”, it includes 22,000 dunums (5,445 acres) of which about 6,000 dunums are private Palestinian land, another part is state-registered land, and most are lands declared as “state lands” in 1989 as part of a wholesale declaration on tens of thousands of acres in the area.
The newspapers added that the Israeli occupation authorities demolished a two-storey Palestinian building in Beit Safafa town, south of Jerusalem.
The dailies said that a Palestinian Wednesday afternoon sustained a shrapnel injury from Israeli military gunfire in Huwara town, south of Nablus, while six others suffocated from tear gas inhalation.The confrontations broke out when a group of settlers, under the protection of heavily-armed soldiers, stormed the town and hoisted Israeli flags in the main street.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the Presidency Wednesday night stated that Israeli occupation authorities underestimate the Palestinian people’s determination to challenge the occupation by insisting on allowing the annual “March of the Flags” in East Jerusalem.
Presidency spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said that following the occupation authorities’ insistence on allowing the “March of the Flags”, organized by Israeli Jewish supremacists to celebrate Israel’s occupation and colonization of East Jerusalem, it is now the time for Jerusalem to become a beacon for all Palestinians and Arabs to confront these assaults that are destabilizing the region.
