Palestine logs 1,340 COVID cases, 22 deaths

Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 1,340 new cases of COVID-19, 22 deaths and 1,989 recoveries were registered in Palestine during the last 24-hour reporting period.

In her daily report on the coronavirus pandemic, Alkaila said five deaths from COVID-19 were registered in the Gaza Strip, while another 17 deaths were reported in the West Bank.

A total of 8,090 COVID-19 tests were conducted during the reporting period. In the Gaza Strip, 1,065 coronavirus tests came out positive, while the West Bank had 275 new cases.

No update was available regarding the situation in occupied Jerusalem.

The Health Minister said that in the West Bank, 200 patients of COVID-19 are hospitalized, of whom 72 are in intensive care, including 21 on ventilators.

She pointed out that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 93 percent, while active cases declined to 6 percent. Deaths stood at only one percent of total infections.

Concerning rollout of vaccines, the Health Minister said over 1,403,000 people have received their first jab of the vaccine in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, of whom 752,400 have been fully vaccinated.
