PCBS records increase in Palestinian Wholesale Price Index during 2021, fourth quarter of 2021

The Palestinian Wholesale Price Index (WPI) increased during 2021 and the fourth quarter of 2021, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).

PCBS said in a press statement that the overall WPI in Palestine with its base year (2007=100) reached 126.99 in 2021, which indicates an increase of 1.21% compared with 2020.

Prices of WPI for 2021 increased due to the increase in the prices of manufacturing activities by 1.25%, agricultural activities by 1.16%, and mining and quarrying activities by 0.78%, while the prices of fishing activities decreased by 4.40%.

The prices of imported products increased by 2.78%, while the prices of local products decreased by 0.80% compared with the previous year.

The overall WPI in Palestine with its base year (2007=100) reached 129.76 in the fourth quarter 2021, which recorded an increase of 0.32% compared with the Third quarter 2021.

WPI for imported products (2007=100) reached 126.49 in the Fourth quarter 2021, which indicates an increase of 1.05% compared with the third quarter 2021.

WPI for local products (2007=100) reached 132.43 in the fourth quarter 2021, which indicates a decrease of 0.17% compared with the third quarter 2021.

WPI for the fourth quarter of 2021 increased due to the increase in the activities of manufacturing by 0.97%, and the activities of mining and quarrying by 0.25%, while the activities of fishing decreased by 9.45%, and the activities of agriculture decreased by 0.96%.

It should be noted that as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak and the implemented measures to limit its spread, the data collection process for WPI has been replaced with data collection via phone and websites for all sale outlets in all of the Palestinian governorates instead of collecting data face to face from the field.
