Presidency welcomes convening of International Quartet meeting on situation in Palestine

The Palestinian Presidency welcomed today the convening of an International Quartet meeting, calling for an end to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza, Jerusalem, and the West Bank.

The Presidency praised the efforts of the International Quartet and the Arab and international efforts to reach a comprehensive ceasefire to which all involved must be committed, in order to create an atmosphere for engaging in a serious political process under the auspices of the International Quartet and within the framework of an international conference based on the international legitimacy resolutions, with the aim of ending the Israeli occupation of the lands of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.

All these efforts will lead to the creation of stability and a just and comprehensive peace in the region, the Presidency affirmed.

The Presidency underlined the importance of Palestinian unity in these difficult circumstances that the Palestinian people are going through, which he stressed requires everyone to stand by the Palestinian people to help heal their wounds and rebuild what the Israeli aggression has destroyed.

The Palestinian Presidency stressed the need to confront extremist settler terrorism in Jerusalem and the West Bank, as well as to preserve the historical status quo in the city of Jerusalem and the blessed al-Aqsa Mosque, protect all Islamic and Christian holy sites, and stand firm to prevent settlers from taking over the homes of Jerusalemites in Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighborhoods and everywhere in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
