President Abbas calls Turkish counterpart to express condolences over earthquake

RAMALLAH- President Mahmoud Abbas today called his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to express condolences over the devastating earthquake which killed over 40,000 in southern Turkey and northwestern Syria.

During the phone call, President Abbas underscored that the State and people of Palestine stand by the brotherly Turkish people following the earthquake, the deadliest such disaster since Turkey’s founding 100 years ago, and indicated his willingness to off support in all forms within means available.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to President Erdogan and the Turkish people, and bereaved families, praying that God grant them solace and wishing speedy recovery to the victims.

President Erdogan thanked President Abbas for his expression of solidarity and pledged that he would continue to defend the inalienable legitimate rights of the Palestinian people as well as the holy sites in Jerusalem and across Palestine.
