5-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Northern Chile

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5 on the Richter scale hit on Wednesday the Antofagasta province, northern Chile.

The epicenter of the earthquake occurred 82 km from the city of Ollague, at a depth of 102.5 km, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake.

In 2010, a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck central Chile, killing 500 people and triggering a tsunami. Chile is located along the Ring of Fire where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
