Young Palestinian youth shot in foot, dozens suffocate in Hebron-area confrontations

A young Palestinian youth was shot and injured in the foot and dozens of others suffocated during confrontations that erupted tonight in al-Arroub refugee camp, north of the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron, according to WAFA correspondent. Confrontations broke out between Israeli forces and the defenseless Palestinian residents at the camp’s entrance, during which forces fired live ammunition, stun grenades, and tear gas canisters at the latter, shooting and injuring a 20-year-old youth in the foot. He was transferred to hospital for medical treatment. Dozens of others were treated at the scene from tear gas suffocation.

A Network, Specialized In Human Trafficking, Arrested In Central Baghdad

The General Directorate of Intelligence and Security arrested a network specialized in human trafficking in central Baghdad.

A statement by the Directorate stated: a qualitative and proactive operation carried out by the detachments of the Baghdad Intelligence and Security Directorate, resulted in the arrest of a major network specialized in human trafficking consisting of (11) suspects, including women in Karrada area in Baghdad, as this network sells and smuggles women out of the country.

It explained that the operation was carried out based on accurate intelligence information, and legal measures were taken against them and they were referred to investigation.

Messi Arrives In Riyadh On A Surprise Visit

The Paris Saint-Germain star, Argentine Lionel Messi, was suddenly present, in the early hours of Monday morning, in the Saudi city of Riyadh.

The video of Messi’s arrival in Riyadh, accompanied by his wife, Antonella, and his children, was spread on social media.

The Saudi Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Al-Khatib, welcomed the Argentine legend, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, as an ambassador for tourism in the Kingdom.

Al-Khatib wrote through his personal account on Twitter: “I am pleased to welcome the Saudi Tourism Ambassador, Lionel Messi, and his family on his second vacation in Saudi Arabia.”

He continued, “We are pleased to share our authentic Saudi welcome with all of you.”

Messi’s visit to Saudi Arabia aroused the enthusiasm of many football fans, since the “Flea” was recently associated with moving to many clubs in the Saudi League, specially by Al-Hilal.

Messi’s contract with his current team, Paris Saint-Germain, expires at the end of the current season.

Russia’s Defense Ministry Announces Killing of 540 Ukrainian Soldiers

Russian Defense Ministry announced Monday its forces killed 540 Ukrainian soldiers.

In its daily report on the military operation in Ukraine, the ministry stated that its soldiers had killed 540 Ukrainian soldiers over the past 24 hours on all fronts.

It added that eight drones were also shot down, and five cannons and two ammunition depots were destroyed.

The Russian military operation in Ukraine entered its second year without any signs a way out of the conflict.

Saudi Arabia Evacuates 5,409 Saudi Citizens, Nationals of Other Countries from Sudan

The total number of Saudi citizens and nationals of other countries who have been evacuated from Sudan since the beginning of evacuation operations reached nearly 5,409 people, including 225 Saudi citizens, and roughly 5,184 people from various nationalities.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) stated that 41 Saudi citizens and 171 nationals of several countries arrived in Jeddah city on Monday, underscoring the keenness of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to provide all essential needs to the nationals of those countries, pending facilitation of their departure to their homelands.

6th Qatar Senior Open 2023 Concludes

The Qatar Golf Association (QGA) organized the sixth edition of the Qatar Senior Open 2023, which was held at the Doha Golf Club for two days, with the participation of 120 male and female players from the State of Qatar and abroad.

The competition was very heated as several distinguished players competed for the title.

Bahraini player Hamad Mubarak won the Men’s section of the championship, with a total of 152 strokes: one stroke ahead of Thai player Kittisak Sangorn, who finished runner-up.

As for the women’s section, Doha Golf Club player Uzma Mir won the section’s title with a total of 168 strokes.

QGA Secretary General Fahad Nasser Al Naimi and QGA Board of Directors Member Mohamed Faisal Al Naimi awarded the winners in a closing ceremony held after the end of the tournament’s second round.

120 players participated in this edition, which is a great turnout and the result of the effort made by QGA in cooperation with the Doha Golf Club in developing the tournament.

Qatar Senior Open is making a name for itself among regional golf tournaments, with golfers over the age of 45 taking part in it, which attracts businessman and large company owner golfers.

Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs to Hold Intellectual Seminar on Citizenship, Jurisprudence of Belonging

The Department of Islamic Research and Studies at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs holds a series of intellectual and cultural seminars starting from Tuesday, in celebration of Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani International Endowment Prize.

The first intellectual seminar will be held at Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center under the title: “Citizenship and the jurisprudence of belonging”.

It is the same title as the prize for its thirteenth year, the department explained in a statement on Monday.

The event features the participation of Professor of Contemporary Jurisprudence at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Qatar University Dr. Abdel Qader Jedi.

The statement added that on the sidelines of the seminar Dr. Abd al-Salam Riah from Morocco, winner of the prize, will be honored, and the procedures for printing winning research will be announced, in addition to embarking on translating it into some international languages such as English and French.

Dr. Riah will address the ideas and viewpoints he recorded in his winning research concerning the key themes of the topic that will discuss the methods of entrenching national identity values represented in the Holy Qu’ran, the Prophet’s Sunnah, the life of the Companions, heritage, language, coexistence, acquaintance, dialogue and freedom of belief.

The winner of the prize will highlight the circles of belonging, the relationship between affiliation to homeland and allegiance to the creed, the problem of belonging between the nation and the state, citizenship in non-Muslim countries, citizenship and current challenges “Globalization”, as well as international alliances, UN resolutions, citizenship, integration and human rights.

In addition, the winner will focus on the basics of citizenship, which are demonstrated in justice, security, equality, equity of opportunity, full participation and entitlement to natural benefits.

The seminar comes as an extension to previous intellectual and cultural seminars along the course of the prize established by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs in 1998, as a contribution to further encourage scientific research, in pursuit of creating a generation of scholars in the fields of multiple Sharia sciences to be the first and biggest endowment prize in the area of culture, Dawah and Islamic thought in the State of Qatar.

Kuwait scouts is keen on partaking at Arab forums – official

The Kuwaiti Scouts Association (KSA) is eager to take part in the forums held at the Arab countries as they have a key role in enhancing bonds of cooperation among Arab youth, KSA board of directors’ member Najm Abdullah said Monday.

Speaking to KUNA in a statement on the sidelines of the Arab scouts forum in Morocco, Abdullah said this participation helps cement the value of voluntary action, tolerance and coexistence among different societies.

Taking part in such forums is based on “our faith in the importance of noble goals and principles” aiming to build individual’s personality to help his/her society, he said.

The forum, which includes 350 persons representing different Arab scouts associations, has several purposeful activities and workshops, he Abdullah.

Being held under the patronage of Morocco’s King VI Mohammad, the forum kicked off Saturday and will run until May 5

Morgan acquires most assets of First Republic

JP Morgan Chase bank has acquired most stakes of the failing First Republic Bank that became the latest of the banks that failed to secure assets of the depositors.

JM Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said in a statement that his bank acquired the substantial majority of assets and assumed the deposits, insured and uninsured, of First Republic from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the independent government agency that insures deposits for bank customers.

“Our government invited us and others to step up, and we did the deal that is also a good one for our bank’s shareholders,” he said.

A Treasury Department spokesperson said, “Treasury is encouraged that this institution was resolved with the least cost to the Deposit Insurance Fund, and in a manner that protected all depositors,” “The banking system remains sound and resilient, and Americans should feel confident in the safety of their deposits and the ability of the banking system to fulfill its essential function of providing credit to businesses and families

Kuwait Crown Prince decrees parliament dissolution

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Monday issued a decree dissolving the National Assembly, citing respect for the Constitution and the Kuwaiti people’s will.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal noted in the proclaimed decree that he took the move to safeguard Kuwait’s higher interests and its independence amid regional and international economic developments and for sake of attaining prosperity and progress for the citizens.

The decision has been taken, he indicated in the decree, because of the need to refer to the nation, the source of powers, so they (the Kuwaiti people) may decide to choose their representatives for administering State affairs and attaining the aspired objectives.

He affirmed dissolution of the National Assembly on the basis of a presentation by the prime minister after the cabinet approval.

The prime minister, ministers and other concerned party must implement this decree, effective as off the time of its issuance, he stated. It is to the published in the official Gazette.

The declaration by His Highness the Crown Prince came shortly after the cabinet blessed the parliament dissolution and referred the decree in this respect to His Highness the Crown Prince for endorsement

Arab ministers conclude meeting on Syria

Arab foreign ministers who held a meeting in Amman affirmed priority of resolving the Syria’s crisis through a political settlement that would safeguard its sovereignty and meet the people’s aspirations.

The call came in the final statement of the meeting that grouped foreign ministers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Egypt. It was a follow-up to a gathering that comprised foreign ministers of the GCC states with their peers from Jordan, Iraq, Egypt on Syria, held in Saudi Arabia on April 14.

The ministers in the end of the freshly-concluded meeting in Amman called for creating proper conditions for safe and voluntary return of the Syrian refugees to their homeland, ridding Syria of terrorism, withdrawing all illegitimate foreign forces from the country and achieving national conciliation.

The final statement indicated that there would be more meetings at this level in the future to work on attaining the objectves outlined in the Security Council Resolution 2254
