Arab League: Palestinian issue “central” to Arab Media strategy

The Arab League affirmed on Wednesday that the Palestinian issue was central to the Arab Media strategy, pointing out that Palestinian media is being violated without consideration to the safety and wellbeing of its journalists.

This came in a press release on the (World Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Media) that is celebrated by the Arab League on May 11, in implementation of the Council of Arab Information Ministers’ decision during its 52nd session held last September.

The press release stressed on the need to treat journalists and media workers during armed conflicts in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law, particularly the requirements of Article 79 of the First Additional Protocol of the Geneva Conventions. It also pointed out that today marks the anniversary of the tragic death of Palestinian reporter Sherine Abu Aqleh, which was shot and killed on duty.
