Deputy Minister of Expatriate Affairs Zayed al-Riyami on Sunday discussed with United Nations Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen William David Gresley a number of issues of Yemeni expatriates abroad.
In the meeting, al-Riyami and Gresley touched on the arbitrary measures practiced by the Saudi authorities against Yemeni expatriates and the violations and inhumane treatment they are subjected to in their prisons.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that the Saudi authorities treat Yemeni expatriates in an arbitrary manner and are subjected to grave violations in their prisons unjustly and aggressively, indicating that a Yemeni expatriate may be sentenced to death or imprisonment for more than 15 years just for a post on social media, and malicious charges are fabricated and sentences are unjustly executed.
They touched on the file of the Yemeni expatriates stranded in Sudan and their suffering as a result of the ongoing war and the hotels government disclaiming its responsibility to evacuate the nationals, in addition to updating the mechanism for developing the relationship between the ministry and the International Organization for Migration.
Al-Riyami called on the International Organization for Migration to abide by the covenants and agreements concluded between it and the ministry.
For his part, Gresley urged the organization to develop its relationship with the ministry and to abide by what was proposed to the organization in Geneva, noting that the decision to move the organization’s headquarters from Sana’a to Aden affected the organization’s work.
He said, “With regard to the Yemeni stranded in Sudan, we will work to find the appropriate means to evacuate them and return them to Aden.”
