Foreign Ministry condemns Israeli approval of 2,200 new settler units in the occupied territories

RAMALLAH, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates today condemned the Israeli government’s move to approve the construction of 2,200 new colonial settler units in the occupied territories.

The Ministry decried this Israeli announcement as intended to pillage more Palestinian land, further the fragmentation of the geographical contiguity of the West Bank, segregate Palestinian land into small cantons, and consolidate the Israeli settler-colonialism of the territories of the State of Palestine, particularly Area C, which constitutes 61 percent of the occupied West Bank.

It described the occupation authorities’ decision to issue permits for the construction of 1,000 housing units for Palestinians in Area C as an attempt to whitewash Israeli colonial settlement construction and mislead the international community and public opinion, noting that the occupation authorities are promoting the construction of these houses as a generous offer to the Palestinians although many of these house are already constructed and inhabited or are under construction on privately-owned Palestinian land in Area C.
