Israel MP stands down from parliament in plea agreement

An Israeli lawmaker handed in his parliamentary resignation on Sunday after reaching a deal that will see him steer clear of jail and a potential ban from seeking election in 2025. The December plea agreement says Aryeh Deri, chief of the ultra-Orthodox Shas party, must also accept that he committed low-level taxation offences and submit to a fine of 180,00 shekels ($57,305), The Jerusalem Post reported.
