Israeli court orders demolition of Sur Baher Club in Jerusalem

Israeli occupation court issued today a demolition order against Sur Baher Club located in a Palestinian neighborhood on the southeastern outskirts of East Jerusalem, under the pretext of being built without an Israeli-issued permit.

The Club’s chairman, Asraf ‘Amera, said Israeli authorities delivered four demolition notices against the club in less than one year after the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem failed more than once to take control of and appropriate the club and the land on which it is constructed in exchange of granting us projects under its supervision, which was absolutely rejected by the club’s administration.

He said “two years ago we registered the club and the eight-dunum plot it is built on as an Islamic Waqf (endowment), and with this, we were able to protect it against attempts by the Israeli municipality to take it over and we were able to restore it and build a grass field.
