Kuwait dispatches another aid aircraft to Sudan

The State of Kuwait on Friday sent another Air Force plane carrying 10 tons of medical supplies to violence-hit Sudan.

The move is part of a Kuwaiti humanitarian initiative aiming at helping the Sudanese people, and comes under the direction of His highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Emergency Chief Yusuf Al-Mearaj told KUNA.

The Kuwaiti gesture reflects Kuwait’s support for and solidarity with the Sudanese people amid the current tough circumstances in their country due to ongoing infighting between the army and paramilitary forces, he said.

However, he vowed that Kuwait would continue sending necessary food and medical supplies to Sudan in a bid to alleviate the humanitarian suffering and woes of its people.

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said on Thursday that Kuwait’s four-day aid airlift to Sudan came at the behest of the country’s political leadership, and reflected its solidarity with brotherly and sisterly countries.

He said the initiative is aimed at dispatching relief aid to the Sudanese people due to the current circumstances in their country.

In this context, a committee of the ministries of foreign affairs, defense, finance and health as well as the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) was formed, with a view to ensuring the immediate delivery of relief and medical aid to the Sudanese people.
