Malki calls on Norway to ensure accountability of Israel, protection of Palestinian people

Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister Riad al-Malki Wednesday called on Norway to ensure accountability of Israel and the protection of the Palestinian people.

During a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York, al-Malki called on Norway’s counterpart, Anniken Huitfeldt, who serves as UNSC President for January, to take immediate action to hold Israel accountable for its violations and colonial occupation and provide Palestinians with the international protection they are entitled to.

He underscored Huitfeldt’s efforts in convening a UNSC session at the ministerial level on the Question of Palestine and commended Norway on its key role in defense of the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights.

He briefed the top Norwegian diplomat on the latest developments on the Palestinian arena, with focus on the recent forced expulsion of the Salhiya family and demolition of their house in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

He stressed the importance of Huitfeldt’s efforts aimed at re-launching a credible peace process with Israel, under the Quartet’s auspices, and safeguarding international security and peace, while inviting her to visit Palestine.

Huitfeldt affirmed that her country would continue to engage with partners to preserve the viability of the two-state solution.
