Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight Israeli land grab plans, call to boycott settlement products

Today’s Palestinian dailies highlighted different topics.

Al-Ayyam daily said in its main front-page story that Israel plans to establish a park that will lead to the seizure of large areas of land between Jerusalem and the Dead Sea, as well as a new road that will lead to the seizure of thousands of dunums of land in the Ramallah area.

It quoted settlement expert Khalil Toufakji saying that the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem approved a plan to turn part of a Muslim cemetery located outside the wall of the old city of Jerusalem into a park.

Al-Quds daily reported on the park plan and also on the demolitions and notices to demolish structures and houses in the West Bank. It said Palestinians demonstrated in Jerusalem against the house demolition policy in occupied East Jerusalem of the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem.

However, its main front-page story focused on the call by the Israeli government for Israelis to leave Turkey immediately fearing Iranian reprisals. Nevertheless, said the paper, the Israelis did not heed the call and printed a picture of travelers to Turkey flooding Tel Aviv airport.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily highlighted remarks by Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh in which he called on Europeans and others to boycott the illegal Israeli settlement products.

It also said that President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Cyprus yesterday on a three-day official visit and met with Arab ambassadors.

It said in a report by its correspondent that the long-delayed European financial support for the Palestinian Authority is expected to arrive before the end of this year.

Al-Ayyam also touched on this topic and quoted sources telling the newspaper that the agreement to disperse the funds may be signed within a week.

Al-Quds also said that the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Italian president arrived in Israel yesterday to discuss the issues of energy and gas. Leyen is also going to meet during her visit with Prime Minister Shtayyeh in Ramallah to talk about the withheld European aid to the Palestinians.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on 15 years since the Hamas coup against the Palestinian Authority and the takeover of power in the Gaza Strip.
