At least one Palestinian was injured with gunfire and two international activists were detained today as Israeli occupation forces attacked two anti-colonization protests in the West Bank districts of Nablus and Hebron, according to local and medical sources.
In Nablus, north of the occupied West Bank, Israeli army attacked the weekly anti-colonization protest which takes place in the village of Beit Dajan, injuring at least one protester and causing many cases of suffocation from gas inhalation, said the Palestinian Red Crescent (PRC).
In Hebron, south of the West Bank, Israeli soldiers attacked hundreds of protesters, including local Palestinian citizens and international solidarity activists, who were taking part in a protest in a similar protest in Masafer Yatta area, causing many cases of suffocation from teargas inhalation among the protesters.
The Israeli soldiers also arrested five protesters in Masafer Yatta, including two international activists who were not yet identified.
Rateb Jabour, a local anti-colonization activist, told reporters that the protest in Masafer Yatta was in response to the installation of tents and other residential facilities by illegal Israeli settlers on lands belonging to Palestinian owners in the area, which Palestinians fear might be a prelude to establishing a new colonial settlement outpost.
There are over 700,000 colonial Israeli settlers living in Jewish-only settlements across the West Bank in violation of international law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention which expressly bans the relocation of the occupying nation’s civilian population to the land of the occupied.
