One Palestinian administrative detainee in Israel has been on hunger strike for one month demanding an end to detention without charge or trial, today said the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).
It said Salim Zeidat, from Bani Naim village in the south of the West Bank, started his hunger strike one month ago in protest against his administrative detention.
The PPS said 12 other Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli prisons are currently on hunger strike also demanding their freedom and an end to their ongoing detention. Seven of the prisoners are on hunger strike for more than 20 days.
One administrative detainee from Tulkarm began on hunger strike on Sunday, the latest to join the hunger strikers demanding their freedom.
Palestinian administrative detainees believe hunger strike is the only way they can win their freedom by forcing Israel to confine their detention to a specific period rather than keep renewing it for months and years.
