Palestine confirms 1,899 new coronavirus cases, 16 deaths

Palestine today confirmed 1,899 new Covid-19 cases and 16 death cases, according to Health Minister Mai Alkaila.

She announced that 1,899 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 16 others died of it in the occupied territories.

As part of the 1,899 new cases, 619 cases were registered in the West Bank and 1,280 others in the Gaza Strip.

She identified the death cases as nine cases from the West Bank and seven others from the West Bank.

She added that 2,117 Covid-19 patients recovered; 812 recovery cases in the West Bank and 1,305 others in the Gaza Strip.

She pointed that 73 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units and 209 others are currently receiving treatment at hospitals and Covid-19 dispensaries, including 12 who are intubated.

She said that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 91.6 percent and the active cases account for 7.4 percent. The death toll stood at 1 percent of total infections.

Regarding the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, al-Kaileh said that 1,333,045 people have been so far vaccinated in the occupied territories; 941,156 people in the West Bank and 391,889 others in Gaza. A total of 633,761 people received the second dose of the vaccine.
