Palestine confirms 2,219 new coronavirus cases, 19 deaths

RAMALLAH, Friday, Palestine today confirmed 2,219 new Covid-19 cases and 19 death cases, according to Health Minister Mai Alkaila.

She announced that 2,219 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 19 others died of it in the occupied territories.

As part of the 2,219 new cases, 786 cases were registered in the West Bank and 1,433 others in the Gaza Strip.

She identified the death cases as 15 cases from the Gaza Strip and four others from the West Bank.

The West Banks death cases were identified as a resident of Ramallah district, a resident of Tulkarm district, a resident of Qalqiliya district and a resident of Nablus district.

She added that 2,485 Covid-19 patients recovered; 1,127 recovery cases in the West Bank and 1,358 others in the Gaza Strip.

She pointed that 80 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units and 205 others are currently receiving treatment at hospitals and Covid-19 dispensaries, including 12 who are intubated.

She said that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 91 percent and the active cases account for 8 percent. The death toll stood at 1 percent of total infections.

Regarding the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, al-Kaileh said that 1,287,806 people have been so far vaccinated in the occupied territories; 913,153 people in the West Bank and 374,653 others in Gaza. A total of 555,382 people received the second dose of the vaccine.
