Palestine confirms 2,231 new coronavirus cases, 17 deaths

Palestine today confirmed 2,231 new Covid-19 cases and 17 death cases, according to Health Minister Mai Alkaila.

She announced that 2,231 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 17 others died of it in the occupied territories.

As part of the 2,231 new cases, 486 cases were registered in the West Bank and 1,745 others in the Gaza Strip.

She identified the death cases as 12 cases from the Gaza Strip and five others from the West Bank.

She added that 2,809 Covid-19 patients recovered; 989 recovery cases in the West Bank and 1,820 others in the Gaza Strip.

She pointed that 72 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units and 205 others are currently receiving treatment at hospitals and Covid-19 dispensaries, including 14 who are intubated.

She said that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 92 percent and the active cases account for 7 percent. The death toll stood at 1 percent of total infections.

Regarding the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, al-Kaileh said that 1,358,764 people have been so far vaccinated in the occupied territories; 956,514 people in the West Bank and402,250 others in Gaza. A total of 674,883 people received the second dose of the vaccine.
