Palestine’s UN Representative, Riyad Mansour, urges Slovenia to recognize Palestine in support of peace

The Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, today stressed during a meeting with officials in Slovenia the importance of recognizing the State of Palestine, a step that would boost the peace process and strengthen the two-state solution.

Mansour said during an official visit to Slovenia among a delegation of New York-based ambassadors to discuss a number of issues of common concern with senior Slovenian officials that there is an understanding by the new Slovenian government for this issue, adding that it was agreed to continue contacts between the two sides at all levels and on many issues.

It is noteworthy that Slovenia was among the European countries that voted in the Fourth Committee and the General Assembly to request an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on a prolonged occupation and the legal implications of that. It is also one of the first countries to sign the statement rejecting Israeli sanctions on the Palestinian people, their leadership, and civil society organizations.
