Palestinian official calls for a two-day vigil at Khan al-Ahmar to block Israeli demolition plan

A Palestinian official has called for a two-day vigil at Khan al-Ahmar community, east of Jerusalem, to block an Israeli plan to demolish the community and displace its residents a day before the Israeli Supreme Court is scheduled to issue a ruling on this issue.

Muayyad Shaban, head of the Wall and Settlements Resistance Commission, told WAFA that he called for a two-day vigil today and tomorrow in Khan al-Ahmar as Israel gets ready to demolish it.

The demolition and displacement of residents in the Khan al-Ahmar, which includes 25 Bedouin communities, means an end to the Palestinian dream of establishing a Palestinian state, and the shuttering of any horizon for a political solution, as well as control over thousands of dunums of Palestinian land extending from the eastern slopes of Jerusalem to the Dead Sea, not to mention the displacement of 4,000 residents from these communities, he said.

Concern over demolishing Khan al-Ahmar, where 200 people live, half of them children, was heightened following a call by racist Israeli cabinet minister Itamar Ben Gvir to immediately demolish it and kick out its residents.
