Presidency: Committed to peace-making based on international legitimacy

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, said today that Israeli prime minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement before the Jewish Republican Alliance conference in the United States – that “the Palestinians are not interested in making peace” – is an attempt to deceive the world public opinion.

He said Netanyahu’s remarks “reveal his true intentions to evade any political process that leads to ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy. “

“The Netanyahu government, which will include Itamar Ben-Gvir who yesterday led settler attacks on Palestinian citizens in Hebron, is a prelude to what the next phase will look like under an extremist right-wing Israeli government,” he pointed out.

He continued: “This right-wing government will be responsible for the deterioration of the situation and instability. Therefore, Netanyahu is trying to turn the facts around and distort them because he knows what will result from a government of this kind and which includes ultra-extremists like Ben-Gvir and Smotrich.”

Abu Rudeineh also warned against the continued incursions by Jewish extremists into the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, saying any attempt to change the existing status quo at the Noble Sanctuary will be grave.

He stressed that such attempts will lead to an explosion of the situation, and this will be the sole responsibility of the Israeli government.
