President Abbas holds talks with his Algerian counterpart

President Mahmoud Abbas met today with his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the presidency headquarters in the Algerian capital.

During the meeting, President Abbas briefed his Algerian counterpart on the latest political developments of the Palestinian cause and the Israeli occupation practices that undermine the chances of peace and the two-state solution.

President Abbas said that the Palestinian cause is going through unprecedented challenges in light of the intransigence of the Israeli government and its president’s declaration that he does not believe in the two-state solution, and his quest to deepen settlement, occupation, and apartheid, stifle the Palestinian economy and steal Palestinian, lands, natural and financial resources.

The president valued Algeria’s supportive stances of the cause and the Palestinian people in all international forums, especially in the African Union, wishing Algeria and its people continued progress and prosperity.

President Abbas as well discussed with President Tebboune ways to strengthen the distinguished relations, the historical bonds of friendship between the two peoples and the two leaderships, and many international and regional issues of common interest.

The two presidents discussed ways to coordinate common positions between the two sides, within the framework of preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit, which Algeria will host next March.

The President expressed his confidence that the Palestinian issue will be central to the upcoming Arab summit in Algeria.

During a joint press conference after the meeting, President Abbas stressed the necessity of holding an international peace conference in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, aimed at ending the occupation of the land of the State of Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital.

He affirmed that if the occupation authorities continue their tyranny and aggressive practices against our people and our land with its capital, Jerusalem, “we will have our options and measures soon.” President Abbas thanked his Algerian counterpart and the Algerian diplomacy for the great role they play in supporting the Palestinian cause in international forums, especially in the African Union, and the importance of continuing bilateral coordination between the two countries.

President Abbas arrived in the Algerian capital on Sunday for a three-day official visit.
