Six people now confirmed with the omicron variant in Palestine, says Health Ministry

Six people have been confirmed to have been infected with the omicron variant of the coronavirus in Palestine and all have shown light symptoms, today said the Ministry of Health.

Kamal Shakhra, a spokesman for the Health Ministry, said the number of people infected with omicron has increased to six after two new cases from Jericho and Bethlehem were discovered for arrivals from abroad.

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh announced in the cabinet meeting yesterday that all Palestinian entering or leaving the country will be required to show proof of vaccination, calling on people who got the second vaccine six months ago or longer to get the booster shot.

The first cases of the omicron variant were discovered on Thursday in Bethlehem, Hebron and Tubas, also for arrivals from abroad.

All cases have shown light symptoms, said Shakhra.
