TRACE Foundation Announces Recipients of the 2021 TRACE Prize for Investigative Reporting

ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The TRACE Foundation, a non-profit organization established to support projects that encourage greater commercial transparency, today announced the winners of the 2021 TRACE Prize for Investigative Reporting. The annual award recognizes journalism that uncovers business bribery or related financial crime.

Zorayda Gallegos Valle, a freelance journalist writing for El País in Mexico, won the TRACE Prize for her investigation that uncovered the Mexican Army’s scheme to divert at least $156 million of public resources through hundreds of shell companies contracted to complete infrastructure projects.

“I am grateful to the TRACE Foundation for supporting investigative journalism because it plays an important role in the transparency and accountability of governments worldwide,” Valle said. “Investigative journalism has become more relevant in Mexico and all over the world. It helps to disclose unlawful activities that authorities want to keep secret, and oversee their actions.”

The second recipient of this year’s TRACE Prize is the FinCEN Files reporting team, which included BuzzFeed News, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and more than 100 media partners. The team undertook a 16-month long investigation, reviewing thousands of financial intelligence documents. They uncovered a flawed oversight process that allowed global banks to profit from suspect transactions. Their reporting has resulted in new reforms and investigations in multiple countries.

“The FinCEN Files investigation exposed how some of the world’s biggest banks play an integral role in the global flow of dirty money,” ICIJ Director Gerard Ryle said. “Our findings have helped push forward important anti-money laundering reforms in some of the globe’s key financial centers, and this recognition from TRACE will help keep the issue in the spotlight.”

ICIJ also earned an honorable mention, along with the rest of the Luanda Leaks team, which includes FRONTLINE, the New York Times and 34 other media partners, for their work exposing the kleptocracy of Isabel dos Santos, daughter of Angola’s former president. They revealed how Western professionals play a vital, little-examined role in the blighting of the lives of countless Angolans.

Ferdinand Ayite of L’Alternative magazine in Togo earned an honorable mention for his Pétrolegate investigation, which found serious financial malpractice among Togolese government officials in charge of importing and pricing petroleum products.

آلاف الفلسطينيين يشيعون جثمان المُعارض الفلسطيني نزار بنات

شيّع آلاف الفلسطينيين، اليوم الجمعة، جثمان المُعارض والناشط الفلسطيني، نزار بنات (44 عاما)، الذي توفي بعد اعتقاله من قبل قوة أمنية فلسطينية، أمس الخميس.

وألقت عائلة بنات نظرة الوداع الأخيرة على الجثمان، في منزل العائلة في بلدة دورا، بمحافظة الخليل (جنوب).

وأدى المشيعون صلاة الجنازة على الجثمان، في مسجد “وصايا الرسول”، في مدينة الخليل، قبل أن يتم مواراته الثرى في مقبرة “الشهداء”.

وشارك آلاف الفلسطينيين في مراسم التشييع، وأطلقوا هتافات منددة بالأجهزة الأمنية.

وتوفي بنات فجر أمس الخميس على يد عناصر أجهزة الأمن التابعة للسلطة الفلسطينية بحسب شهود عيان كانوا معه، وذلك بعد الاعتداء عليه وضربه خلال مداهمة منزله واقتياده للاعتقال، وفق شهادات طبية وعائلية.

عائلة نزار

وقد طالبت عائلة الراحل بإجراء تحقيق نزيه وشفاف في ظروف مقتل ابنها، واستبعاد السلطة الفلسطينية عن التحقيق بصفتها طرفا.

وقال عمار بنات المتحدث باسم العائلة إن ما جرى هو اغتيال بحق نزار. وأضاف “تعرض نزار للاعتقال عند الساعة الثالثة والنصف فجرا من قبل قوة أمنية من جهازي الأمن الوقائي والمخابرات العامة”.

وتابع “القوة اقتحمت منزل نزار بنات بعد تفجير مدخله، وانهالت عليه بالضرب بواسطة هراوات حديدية وخشبية.

وقال عمار بنات في مقابلة إذاعية إن عناصر القوة “سَحَلوه وضربوه أثناء جرّه إلى سيارة الاعتقال، وقاموا بشتمه وإهانته، وكانت الدماء تسيل منه”.

التقرير الطبي

وكانت هيئات حقوقية فلسطينية، أكدت أن التشريح الأولي لجثمان الناشط نزار بنات، أظهر وجود إصابات تتمثل في كدمات في مناطق عديدة من جسده، وان سبب وفاته “غير طبيعية”.

وقالت الهيئة المستقلة ومؤسسة الحق لحقوق الإنسان خلال مؤتمر صحفي مشترك عقد في مقر الهيئة المستقلة في مدينة رام الله مساء الخميس : إن الناشط بنات يتعرض للمضايقات والتهديد من فترة، وتتم ملاحقته على خلفية نشاطه السياسي المشروع وتعبيره عن الرأي، وقد تعرض منزله لإطلاق النار في الثاني من أيار/مايو الماضي، وسبق أن طالبنا الجهات الرسمية بوقف ملاحقته وتوفير الحماية له.

وأوضحت أن التهم التي نسبت إلى الناشط بنات (من ذم سلطات أو تشهير أو غير ذلك) هي تهم تتعلق بالرأي والتعبير وتعتبر جنح بسيطة لا يستدعي شكل وأسلوب الاعتقال الذي جرى من حيث التوقيت وجه الفجر أو حجم وطبيعة القوة المشاركة.

وأضافتا أن مشاهدات التشريح أظهرت وجود إصابات تتمثل في كدمات وتسحجات في مناطق عديدة من الجسم بما في ذلك الرأس والعنق والكتفين والصدر والظهر والأطراف العلوية والسفلية، مع وجود آثار تربيط على المعصمين. وكسور في الأضلاع. كما تشير نتائج التشريح الأولية، حسب طبيب الهيئة وطبيب العائلة، أن الوفاة هي غير طبيعية، لكن تحديد سبب الوفاة الرئيسي من الناحية الإكلينيكية يتطلب الانتظار لحين ظهور النتائج المخبرية من انسجة.

وأكدتا أن ما تعرض له الناشط بنات هو حادث خطيرة بحق معارض سياسي يستدعي فتح تحقيق جنائي وتقديم جميع المسؤولين والمتورطين إلى الجهات القضائية المختصة لاتخاذ الإجراءات القانونية بحقهم.

ودعت المؤسستان الحقوقيتان الفلسطينيتان، الرئيس الفلسطيني محمود عباس إلى وقف حالة الطوارئ المعلنة منذ آذار 2020 والتي يتم تمديدها بشكل شهري.

وشددتا على ضرورة التزام أفراد الأجهزة الأمنية بالقانون والأنظمة والتعليمات، واحترام الحقوق والحريات التي أقرها القانون الأساسي الفلسطيني، أثناء قيامهم بواجبهم، ووقف ملاحقة أي مواطن على خلفية الرأي والتعبير وإطلاق الحقوق والحريات العامة، وتعديل التشريعات التي تجير توقيف مواطنين احتياطياً.

كما دعتا إلى مراجعة إجراءات تنفيذ مذكرات إحضار المواطنين ووقف المداهمات الليلة والاعتقال في ساعات الفجر، وترك تنفيذ مذكرات الإحضار للشرطة القضائية بالزي الرسمي، والإفراج الفوري عن جميع الموقوفين على خلفية نشاط سياسي أو على خلفية الرأي والتعبير أو المشاركة في الانتخابات التي تم تأجيلها.

ونوهتا إلى أنهما ستقومان بإصدار تقرير نهائي حول الموضوع بعد صدور تقرير الطب العدلي النهائي.

احتجاجات

وأمس الخميس قمعت قوات الأمن التابعة للسلطة الفلسطينية، مسيرة نظمها نشطاء، في مدينة رام الله (وسط الضفة الغربية)، منددة بوفاة المعارض نزار بنات.

وذكر شهود عيان، أن قوات أمن السلطة، قمعت مسيرة انطلقت من ميدان “المنارة” وسط المدينة، باتجاه مقر الرئاسة الفلسطينية، تنديدا بوفاة الناشط بنات.

وأوضح الشهود، أن قوات الأمن، أطلقت قنابل الغاز المسيل للدموع، واعتدت بالضرب على عشرات المتظاهرين، أسفر عن وقوع العديد من الإصابات وبحالات اختناق.

ورفع المشاركون في المسيرة صور الناشط بنات، وأطلقوا هتافات تتهم الأجهزة الأمنية الفلسطينية بالمسؤولية عن اغتياله.

يشار إلى أن نزار بنات، ناشط ومعارض “مستقل”، للسلطة الفلسطينية، من بلدة دورا بمحافظة الخليل، وعُرف بانتقاداته اللاذعة للسلطة الفلسطينية، واعتقل من قبل الأجهزة الأمنية الفلسطينية عدة مرات.

وأعلن قبل حوالي شهرين تعرّض منزله لإطلاق نار من جانب مجهولين.

“الصحة” الفلسطينية تسجل حالة وفاة و156 إصابة بـ “كورونا”

أعلنت وزارة الصحة في رام الله، اليوم الجمعة، تسجيل حالة وفاة و156 إصابة جديدة بفيروس “كورونا”، و407 حالة تعاف، خلال الـ24 ساعة الماضية.

وقالت وزيرة الصحة مي الكيلة، في التقرير الوبائي اليومي، إن الوزارة لم تسجل أية حالة وفاة بالضفة الغربية بينما سجلت 12 إصابة، في حين سجلت حالة وفاة واحدة، و144 إصابة في قطاع غزة.

وأشارت إلى أن نسبة التعافي من فيروس “كورونا” في فلسطين بلغت 98.1 في المائة، فيما بلغت نسبة الإصابات النشطة 0.8 في المائة، ونسبة الوفيات 1.1 في المائة من مجمل الإصابات.

ولفتت إلى وجود 6 مرضى في غرف العناية المكثفة، بينهم مريض واحد على أجهزة التنفس الاصطناعي، فيما يٌعالج في مراكز وأقسام كورونا في المستشفيات في الضفة الغربية 12 مريضا.

وبشأن اللقاحات، أوضحت الكيلة، أن عدد المواطنين الذين تلقوا التطعيمات في الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة بلغ 481 ألفا و392، بينهم 339 ألفا و82 تلقوا جرعتين من اللقاح.

ألمانيا تحظر استخدام أعلام ورموز حركة “حماس”

حظرت ألمانيا، الجمعة، استخدام أعلام ورموز حركة “حماس” الفلسطينية على أراضيها.

وأفادت وكالة “الأناضول”، أن البرلمان الفيدرالي أقر سلسلة تعديلات قانونية بأصوات ائتلاف حزبي “الاتحاد الديمقراطي المسيحي/الاتحاد الاجتماعي المسيحي” (CDU / CSU) والحزب الاشتراكي الديمقراطي (SPD) التي تشكل الحكومة الائتلافية في ألمانيا.

وأوضحت أنه من بين التعديلات التي مررها البرلمان، حظر استخدام أعلام ورموز “حماس” على الأراضي الألمانية.

ووفقا للمادة 86 المضافة، “سيكون إدراج تنظيم ما على قائمة الإرهاب لدى الاتحاد الأوروبي، كافيا من الآن فصاعدا لحظر علم ورموز حماس في ألمانيا”.

ومؤخرا، رفعت أعلام ورموز “حماس” على نطاق أوسع في ألمانيا، خلال العدوان الإسرائيلي الأخير على غزة.

إصابة 9 فلسطينيين في مواجهات مع جيش الاحتلال شمالي الضفة

أصيب، 9 فلسطينيين بالرصاص الحي، والمعدني المغلف بالمطاط، وبحالات الاختناق، اليوم الجمعة، خلال مواجهات مع جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، شمالي الضفة الغربية المحتلة.

وقالت جمعية “الهلال الأحمر الفلسطيني”، في بيان، إن طواقمها “تعاملت مع 9 إصابات خلال مواجهات بين الفلسطينيين والجيش الإسرائيلي في بلدة بيتا جنوبي نابلس”.

وأوضحت الجمعية، أن من بين الجرحى، شاب أُصيب بالرصاص الحي في فمه، وتم نقله للعلاج في مستشفى رفيديا الحكومي، ووصفت إصابته بـ”الخطيرة”.

ولفت الجمعية إلى أن طواقمها تعاملت مع 5 إصابات بالرصاص المعدني وقنابل الغاز، وإصابتين بحالات اختناق جراء استنشاق الغاز المسيل للدموع، وإصابة جراء السقوط.

وتشهد “بيتا” احتجاجات شبه يومية، رفضا لإقامة بؤرة استيطانية تدعى “أفيتار” على أراضيهم الخاصة في “جبل صَبيح”، المقدرة مساحته بنحو 840 دونما (الدونم يساوي 1000 متر مربع).

وخلال الأسابيع الأخيرة استشهد 4 فلسطينيين من بلدة “بيتا” نفسها، وأُصيب العشرات، غالبيتهم بالرصاص الحي في المواجهات مع قوات الاحتلال.

وتشير تقديرات إسرائيلية وفلسطينية، إلى وجود نحو 650 ألف مستوطن في مستوطنات الضفة الغربية، بما فيها القدس المحتلة، يسكنون في 164 مستوطنة، و116 بؤرة استيطانية.

حماس تدين حظر ألمانيا استخدام أعلام ورموز الحركة على أراضيها

أدانت حركة “حماس” الفلسطينية، الجمعة، حظر ألمانيا استخدام أعلام ورموز الحركة على أراضيها.

وأعرب الناطق باسم الحركة حازم قاسم في تصريح صحفي، عن “أسف حركته وإدانتها” للقرار الألماني.

وقال إن القرار “لا يعبر عن إدراك من هذه الأطراف لعدالة المقاومة الفلسطينية التي تمثلها حماس”.

وأضاف قاسم: “بالرغم من هذه القرارات، إلا أن رواية شعبنا تزداد انتشارا وحضورا في كل الأوساط وفي الساحة الاوروبية على وجه الخصوص”.

ولفت قاسم إلى أن حركته “ستواصل نضالها المشروع ضد الاحتلال، فمقاومتنا مكفولة بكل القوانين والأعراف الدولية والإنسانية”.

الضفة.. إصابة مئات الفلسطينيين في مواجهات مع جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي

أصيب أكثر من 400 فلسطيني، الجمعة، خلال مواجهات مع قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي في الضفة الغربية المحتلة.

وقالت جمعية “الهلال الأحمر” الفلسطيني في بيان، إن طواقمها “تعاملت مع 408 إصابات خلال المواجهات في قريتي بيتا و أوصرين جنوب نابلس”.

وتوزعت الإصابات، وفق البيان، “4 إصابات بالرصاص الحي بينها إصابة شاب في فمه وصفت حالته بالخطيرة، و69 إصابة بالرصاص المعدني المغلف بالمطاط، و250 إصابة بالغاز المسيل للدموع، و13 إصابة بقنابل الغاز، و72 إصابة سقوط وحروق”.

وذكرت الجمعية، أنه “تم استهداف سيارتي إسعاف، إحداهما بالرصاص الحي، والثانية بالرصاص المطاطي ما أدى إلى أضرار مادية بهيكلي السيارتين، وكسر بالزجاج الأمامي لهما”.

وتشهد “بيتا” احتجاجات شبه يومية، رفضا لإقامة بؤرة استيطانية تدعى “أفيتار” على أراضيهم الخاصة في “جبل صَبيح”.

وفي سياق متصل، أصيب شابان بالرصاص الحي وجرى اعتقال أحدهما، و4 آخرين بالرصاص المعدني المغلف بالمطاط بينهم صحفيان، إضافة إلى العشرات بالاختناق خلال قمع جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي للمسيرة الاسبوعية المناهضة للاستيطان، في قرية كفر قدوم بمحافظة قلقيلية وفق شهود عيان.

كما أصيب شاب برصاص الجيش الإسرائيلي، قرب مستوطنة “يتسهار” جنوب نابلس، شمال الضفة.

وأفادت الوكالة الرسمية الفلسطينية “وفا”، أن “قوات الاحتلال أطلقت النار على الشاب محمد كمال عرنده في قدمه وهو من سكان قرية عينابوس جنوب نابلس، ويعاني من أمراض عصبية في جسده، واعتقلته فيما بعد.

وفي وسط الضفة قال شهود عيان، إن عددا من الفلسطينيين أصيبوا بالاختناق جراء قمع الجيش الإسرائيلي لتظاهرة احتجاجية على مصادرة المستوطنين وتجريفيهم للأراضي “جبل العالم”، في قرية نعلين غرب رام الله.

أما في جنوب الضفة فذكر شهود عيان، أن الجيش الإسرائيلي “قمع وقفة منددة بالتوسع الاستيطاني في مسافر يطا جنوب الخليل”.

وتشير تقديرات إسرائيلية وفلسطينية، إلى وجود نحو 650 ألف مستوطن في مستوطنات الضفة الغربية بما فيها القدس المحتلة، يسكنون في 164 مستوطنة، و116 بؤرة استيطانية.

“حماس”: نرفض ربط ملف الأسرى بأي مسار تفاوضي آخر

قال نائب رئيس حركة “حماس” في قطاع غزة، خليل الحية، إن حركته لا تقبل بإطالة أمد إعادة إعمار ما دمرته “إسرائيل”، والتسويف بكسر حصار غزة.

جاء ذلك في لقاء متلفز مع فضائية الأقصى، بحسب ما نشره الموقع الرسمي لـ”حماس”، اليوم الجمعة.

وقال الحية: “أخبرنا الوسطاء أنه يوجد متطلبات لتثبيت وقف إطلاق النار، ولا نقبل بإطالة أمد إعادة الإعمار والتلاعب والتسويف بآليات كسر الحصار”.

وأضاف: “إعادة بناء المنشآت الصناعية والزراعية والتجارية لا يقل أهمية عن إعادة بناء المباني السكنية”.

وأعرب الحية عن رفض حركته “ربط ملف الأسرى بأي مسار تفاوضي آخر”.

وتابع: “لن نسمح للاحتلال بأي حال من الأحوال بقضم أي إنجاز من إنجازات سيف القدس”.

وأوضح الحية “أن أمريكا والاحتلال وبعض الأطراف المحلية تحاول أن تبهت صورة النصر، بتيئيس الناس وخلق متاعب لهم، وإعادة المشهد الفلسطيني إلى سابق عهده من المناكفات”.

وبشأن الجولة الخارجية لـ”حماس” في الخارج، قال الحية “إن زيارة قيادة حركة حماس إلى عدد من الدول بعد معركة سيف القدس، تهدف إلى إعادة الاعتبار للقضية الفلسطينية، وإعادة التضامن والشراكة في مواجهة الاحتلال، والعمل على كبح تمدد الاحتلال في المنطقة بالتطبيع”.

وأكد على رفض حركته مسار التطبيع العربي مع “إسرائيل”.

وأشار إلى أن “سياسة حماس الخارجية مبنية على الانفتاح الكامل على كل دول العالم بلا استثناء، ونريد من هذه العلاقات أن تكون خادمة لحقنا الفلسطيني دون تقديم أثمان سياسية”.

وزار وفد من “حماس” برئاسة رئيس مكتبها السياسي إسماعيل هنية، أخيرا، كلا من مصر، والمغرب، وموريتانيا.

ويعتزم هنية مواصلة جولته في “عدد من دول المنطقة”، وفق ما أعلنته “حماس”، دون تحديد تلك الدول أو مواعيد زيارتها.

أبسن تفوز بقضية الملكية الفكرية لألترافيجين الأمريكية

Synchronoss Technologies, Inc. Announces Pricing of $100 Million Public Offering of Common Stock

BRIDGEWATER, N.J., June 25, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Synchronoss Technologies, Inc. (SNCR) (the “Company” or “Synchronoss”), a global leader and innovator in cloud, messaging and digital products and platforms, today announced the pricing of an underwritten public offering of 38,461,538 shares of its common stock at a public offering price of $2.60 per share. The gross proceeds from the offering, before deducting underwriting discounts and commissions and offering expenses payable by Synchronoss, are expected to be $100 million. In addition, Synchronoss has granted the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to 3,846,154 additional shares of common stock at the public offering price, less the underwriting discounts and commissions.

All of the shares in the offering are being sold by Synchronoss. Synchronoss anticipates using the net proceeds from the offering, and from the offering of Senior Notes and sale of Series B Preferred Stock (each as described below), to fully redeem all outstanding shares of Synchronoss’ Series A Convertible Participating Perpetual Preferred Stock and repay amounts outstanding under Synchronoss’ revolving credit facility. The offering is expected to close on or about June 29, 2021, subject to satisfaction of customary closing conditions.

B. Riley Securities, Inc. (“BRS”) is acting as the lead underwriter and sole book-running manager for the offering. Northland Capital Markets is acting as co-manager for the offering.

Concurrently with the offering, the Company is offering, by means of a separate prospectus supplement, $120 million aggregate principal amount of senior notes due 2026 (the “Senior Notes”). In addition, B. Riley Principal Investments, LLC (“BRPI”), an affiliate of BRS, has entered into an agreement pursuant to which BRPI has agreed to purchase $75.0 million of the Company’s Series B Preferred Stock in a private transaction to be completed concurrently with the closing of the offering.

Mont-Saint-Guibert, Belgium – June 25, 2021, 12:30 pm CET / 6:30 am ET – Nyxoah SA (Euronext Brussels: NYXH) (“Nyxoah” or the “Company”), a medical technology company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative solutions to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), today announced that it is launching an underwritten registered public offering of 2,760,000 ordinary shares in the United States (the “Offering”) at an assumed public offering price of $31.461.

In connection with the Offering, Nyxoah intends to grant the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 15% of the number of ordinary shares offered in the Offering on the same terms and conditions.

Expert optimistic about China’s chipmaking industry

BEIJING, June 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — A news report by China.org.cn on Expert optimistic about China’s chipmaking industry.

The development of China’s domestic chipmaking industry is looking promising as advanced 28 and 14 nanometer (nm) processes are expected to enter mass production by the end of this year and next year respectively, an expert predicted.

Wen Xiaojun, head of the Electronic Information Institute at the China Center for Information Industry Development (CCID), told China’s news portal huanqiu.com, that he was seeing more encouraging signs in China’s chipmaking industry despite technological challenges.

The country’s 14 nm process has navigated many technology difficulties with significant improvements to manufacturing techniques, packaging technologies and key equipment materials, signaling that the technology for this particular node is going to mature and enter mass production by next year, Wen explained.

“This means that China’s complete reliance on overseas supply chains is coming to an end,” he argued.

According to statistics, the global semiconductor market made around $200 billion in sales in the first half of 2019. The 14 nm chipmaking process accounted for 65% of those sales as it is widely used in fields like high-end consumer electronics, high-speed computing, artificial intelligence and automobiles.

The production lines for 14 nm and 12 nm chipmaking are believed to be critical in the semiconductor industry, as the 14 nm process and above can meet almost 70% of the industry demand for chips, and the 12 nm node can meet the requirements for most mid-end 5G chips.

With cautious optimism, Wen noted that although China’s chipmaking industry is delivering impressive results regarding the 14 nm node, domestic industry stakeholders still need to play catch-up with other global giants in order to bridge the technology gap, which, in his words, “calls for devoting more time, investment, and human resources.”

In an interview earlier in May with weiot.net, a media outlet focused on the Internet-of-Things (IoT) industry, Ni Guangnan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, also stressed the importance of staying at the forefront of the advanced chipmaking industry to catch up with other leading countries.

Ni said new technology breakthroughs in the 28 nm and more advanced 14 nm nodes will raise morale in China’s semiconductor industry, and facilitate growth in cutting-edge sectors like new energy vehicles and artificial intelligence.

The World Semiconductor Conference kicked off in Nanjing, capital city of east China’s Jiangsu province, on June 9 this year, showcasing the innovative technology and applications in the semiconductor industry from home and abroad.

Industry leaders such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), Synopsys Inc and Montage Technology participated in the conference together with over 300 exhibitors.

According to a report by China Daily, statistics show that the global sales volume of semiconductor products reached $123.1 billion in the first quarter, up 17.8% year-on-year.
