Public Parks and Open Spaces

Ontario Place has historically been a publicly accessible destination for recreation, entertainment, and leisure. Therme Canada | Ontario Place will carry on and improve traditions of public access to Ontario Place. Through the planned creation of over eight acres of public spaces, including a free-access public beach and enhanced pedestrian and cycling access, people will be able to better connect with the Lake.

Therme’s bridge to the West Island will support the extension and enhancement of the William G. Davis Trail across the entire site, including providing a new link to the mainland from the West Island, allowing people to enjoy more of Ontario Place outdoors year-round.

40 ألف مصل يؤدون صلاة الجمعة في الأقصى

أدى عشرات آلاف المصلين، صلاة ظهر اليوم الجمعة، في المسجد الأقصى المبارك.

وذكرت دائرة الأوقاف الإسلامية، أن “40 ألف مصل من القدس والضفة الغربية والداخل الفلسطيني المحتل أدوا اليوم صلاة الجمعة”.

واستنكر خطيب المسجد الأقصى، الشيخ يوسف أبو سنينة، تسريب البيوت بمدينة القدس المحتلة، متسائلا عن “سبب عدم وقف هذه العقارات وحمايتها من يد الغدر والفساد”.

وتطرق أبو سنينة، خلال خطبة الجمعة، إلى معاناة سكان حي الشيخ جراح وبلدة سلوان، جراء تهديد الاحتلال لخمس عائلات بالإخلاء القسري من منازلهم.

كما تطرق إلى معاناة الأسرى في سجون الاحتلال، وتحملهم قساوة السجن والسجان.

الاحتلال يقمع وقفة مع الأسرى في سلفيت

قمعت قوات الاحتلال الاسرائيلي، اليوم الجمعة، وقفة داعمة للأسرى المضربين عن الطعام، رفضًا للاعتقال الإداري، خلال الفعالية الأسبوعية في منطقة “الرأس” غرب مدينة سلفيت شمال الضفة الغربية المحتلة.

وفي كلمة فصائل العمل الوطني في سلفيت، أوضح نعيم حرب: أن الوقفة جاءت للتضامن مع الأسرى المضربين عن الطعام الرافضين للاعتقال الإداري، باعتباره قرارا جائرا تفرضه سلطات الاحتلال على شعبنا، والذي توارثه الاحتلال عن الانتداب البريطاني على فلسطين.

ودعا المواطنين إلى الوقوف في وجه كل المخططات الاحتلالية، ومساندة الأهالي في الفعاليات الرافضة لانتهاكات الاحتلال.

قالت قناة “العالم” الإيرانية، نقلًا عن ما وصفتها بـ”مصادر مطلعة في المنطقة”: إن “هجوم اليوم الجمعة على سفينة إسرائيلية في شمال بحر عمان، جاء ردًا على هجوم إسرائيلي، على مطار الضبعة في منطقة القصير بسوريا”.

يذكر أن “إسرائيل” أغارت على مطار الضبعة في منطقة القصير بسوريا، ما تسبب بقتلى وإصابات من جراء الهجوم العنيف.

وكانت شركة “زودياك ماريتيم” الإسرائيلية، أعلنت عن مقتل اثنين من طاقم سفينة تديرها تعرضت لهجوم قبالة ساحل عمان في بحر العرب، يوم الجمعة.

وقالت الشركة في بيان إن “هجومًا على ناقلة المنتجات البترولية قبالة الساحل العماني، تسبب بمقتل اثنين من أفراد الطاقم، بريطاني وروماني”.

إصابة 92 فلسطينيا برصاص جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي

أصيب 92 فلسطينيا برصاص جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، الجمعة، خلال مسيرات منددة بالاستيطان في مناطق متفرقة شمالي الضفة الغربية المحتلة.

وقال مدير الإسعاف في جمعية الهلال الأحمر الفلسطيني في نابلس (شمال)، أحمد جبريل، إن “طواقم الهلال تعاملت مع 8 إصابات بالرصاص الحي، و84 بالرصاص المعدني المغلف بالمطاط، وذلك خلال المواجهات التي اندلعت في بلدتي “بيتا” و”بيت دجن” بالمحافظة.

وأضاف، أن طواقهم تعاملت في البلدتين مع 277 إصابة بالاختناق، جراء استنشاق الغاز المسيل للدموع، و66 إصابة أخرى بقنابل الغاز بشكل مباشر وإصابات بالسقوط واعتداء من قبل جيش الاحتلال.

وخلال المواجهات، رشق شبان فلسطينيون، قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، بالحجارة، وأشعلوا النار في إطارات سيارات مطاطية.

وفي شمال الضفة أيضاً، أصيب عشرات الفلسطينيين بالاختناق، جراء استنشاق الغاز المسيل للدموع، خلال قمع الجيش الإسرائيلي لمسيرة كفر قدوم الأسبوعية شرقي محافظة قلقيلية.

وأفاد منسق لجنة المقاومة الشعبية في قرية “كفر قدوم” مراد شتيوي في تصريح مكتوب، أن “جنود الاحتلال اقتحموا البلدة قبل انطلاق المسيرة، ونصبوا كمائن في منازل مهجورة، واعتدوا على المشاركين في المسيرة بإطلاق الرصاص المعدني المغلف بالمطاط وقنابل الغاز المسيل للدموع ما أدى إلى إصابة العشرات بالاختناق”.

كما قمع الجيش الإسرائيلي مسيرة منددة بالاستيطان بمنطقة “الرأس” غربي مدينة سلفيت (شمال)، ومنع المواطنين من الوصول لأراضيهم المُهددة بالاستيطان.

وينظّم الفلسطينيون يوم الجمعة من كل أسبوع، مسيرات مناهضة للاستيطان والجدار الفاصل، في عدد من القرى والبلدات بالضفة الغربية.

وتشير تقديرات إسرائيلية وفلسطينية، إلى وجود نحو 650 ألف مستوطن في مستوطنات الضفة الغربية بما فيها القدس المحتلة، يسكنون في 164 مستوطنة، و116 بؤرة استيطانية.

Israeli quell protest against land pillage south of Nablus, injuries reported

Israeli forces Thursday night quelled a rally against land pillage in Beita town, south of Nablus, causing injuries, according to medical sources.

Ahmad Jibril, the head of the Emergency and Ambulance Department at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), said that Israeli forces opened fire towards the villagers who protested the pillage of their land to construct a new colonial settlement atop Jabal Sbeih (Sbeih Mountain) near the town.

He added that PRCS medics provided treatment to 10 protestors hit with rubber-coated steel bullets, dozens of tear gas suffocation cases in addition to four others who sustained injuries due to falling from high places after being chased by the soldiers.

Two of the casualties were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The residents of Beita and the surrounding villages have been holding weekly Friday rallies to protest the construction of the new colonial settlement of Givat Eviatar atop Jabal Sabih as well as the seizure of lands belonging to the villagers of Beita, Huwarra, and Za‘tara to inaugurate a new settler-only bypass road.

Israeli forces have used fatal violence to disperse the rallies, killing six Palestinians from the town and injuring over 600 others in almost a month.

In addition to Mount Sabih, Israeli forces have erected another colonial settlement outpost atop Mount Al-Arma, north of Beita, a few months ago, as both mounts enjoy a strategic location as they overlook the Jordan Valley, a fertile strip of land running west along the Jordan River which makes up approximately 30% of the West Bank.

Seizing the two hilltops represents a panoptical defensive tool as they would grant the Israeli occupation with a panoramic view over the Jordan Valley and the whole district of Nablus. This is why the Israeli occupation authorities have assigned them a place in its settlement expansion project.

The construction of the two colonial outposts atop Mount Sabih, south of Beita, and Mount Al-Arma, north of the town, besides to a bypass road to the west is an Israeli measure to push Palestinian villages and towns into crowded enclaves, ghettos, surrounded by walls, settlements and military installations, and disrupt their geographic contiguity with other parts of the West Bank.

The number of settlers living in Jewish-only colonial settlements across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of international law has jumped to over 700,000 and colonial settlement expansion has tripled since the signing of Oslo Accords in 1993.

Israel’s nation-state law, passed in July 2018, enshrines Jewish supremacy, and states that building and strengthening the colonial settlements is a “national interest.”

Israeli settlers use chainsaw to cut electric poles south of Nablus

Israeli settlers today cut wooden electric poles using chainsaws in Burin town, south of Nablus city, according to a local activist.

Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors colonial settlement activities in the northern West Bank, confirmed that a group of settlers used chainsaws to chop down six wooden electric poles supplying electricity to a house located on the outskirts of the town, causing power blackout in the area.

The targeted house is separated from the town by the nearby settler-only bypass road, which runs to the illegal colonial settlement of Yitzhar, inhabited by hardcore fanatic Jews.

Settler violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.

Settlers’ violence includes property and mosque arsons, stone-throwing, uprooting of crops and olive trees, attacks on vulnerable homes, among others.

There are over 700,000 Israeli settlers living in colonial Jewish-only settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Four minors among eight Palestinians detained from West Bank

Israeli forces Friday overnight and Thursday night detained eight Palestinians from various parts of the West Bank, according to local and security sources.

Israeli police rounded up four children from the Sultan Ibrahim Street in the East Jerusalem, as confirmed by the Wadi Hilweh Information Center.

In Bethlehem district, Israeli soldiers re-arrested a former prisoner after breaking into his house in al-Khader town, south of the city.

They also arrested another Palestinian after ransacking his family house in Beit Jala city, west of Bethlehem.

In Hebron district, the sources confirmed a military raid in Dura town, southwest of the city, resulting in the detention of two others.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.

Save the Children condemns violence against children after three deaths in one week

Save the Children Thursday condemned the excessive use of force by Israeli forces against children in the occupied Palestinian territory, which has resulted in the deaths of three children across the West Bank in the past week.

Save the Children added in a press statement that on Wednesday, a 12-year-old boy was killed in Beit Ummar, north of Hebron, after Israeli forces shot him in the chest while he sat in a car with his sister and father. Another boy,17, was also reportedly shot in the back over the weekend in northwest Ramallah. He died in hospital after four hours of surgery. Earlier this week, a third teenager died from gunshot wounds he sustained in the neck more than eight weeks ago.

“Three children shot in the chest, neck and back: this is totally unacceptable that any life should be cut short so young. The loss of these children will leave lasting emotional scars on their family and friends. Children have special protection under international law and must be protected from violence at all times,” Jason Lee, Country Director for Save the Children in the occupied Palestinian territory, said.

He called upon Israeli forces to respect children’s rights and Israel to open an investigation into all instances involving the use of force against children.

“Israeli security forces must fully respect, protect and fulfil the rights of all children and act in accordance with international law. Israel should promptly, transparently and independently investigate all instances of use of force against children,” he added.
