Biden blames OPEC for high oil and gasoline prices

Baghdad US President Joe Biden blamed the jump in oil and gasoline prices on the “OPEC” countries’ refusal to pump more crude.

During his speech at the climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland, Biden also attributed the rise in inflation to a slowdown in supply chains following the Corona virus crisis.

Brent prices have jumped more than 60 percent since the beginning of 2021 and hit a three-year high at $86.70 last week, with global demand recovering and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies slowly moving to end record production cuts.

Consuming countries are pressuring “OPEC +” to do more to calm the market, but the alliance is expected to stick to its plan for a gradual monthly increase in production of 400,000 barrels per day, at its meeting on Thursday.
