ViLab Signs MOU with Squid Game Special Effects Creator to Develop Metaverse Technology

CGTN: China-Africa friendship continues to flourish on vaccine, trade, renewable energy

BEIJING, Nov. 30, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — China-Africa friendship is expected to continue to flourish as cooperation is further deepened in various areas after the ongoing 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Dakar, Senegal.

China will provide an additional one billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Africa, carry out 10 projects on poverty alleviation and agriculture, and conduct more programs with Africa in various areas, announced President Xi Jinping on Monday when addressing the opening ceremony of the meeting via video link.

Cooperation against COVID-19

“To reach the target set by the African Union of vaccinating 60 percent of the African population against COVID-19 by 2022, China will provide another one billion doses of vaccines to Africa, of which 600 million doses will be provided free,” Xi said.

During the toughest times in China’s fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, African countries and regional organizations such as the African Union (AU) provided strong support to China. After COVID-19 struck Africa, China supplied 50 African countries and the AU Commission with COVID-19 vaccines.

“China will never forget African countries’ profound friendship,” Xi said, adding that China will also carry out 10 medical and health projects for African countries and send 1,500 medical team members and public health experts to Africa.

Earlier this week, the main building of the Chinese-funded headquarters for the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was structurally completed.

Practical cooperation in various areas

China will work with Africa to expand trade and investment, share experience in poverty alleviation, and strengthen cooperation on digital economy and renewable energy, Xi said.

China will send 500 agricultural experts to Africa, work closely with African countries to implement nine major projects on healthcare, poverty alleviation, trade, investment, digital innovation, green development, capacity building, cultural exchanges and security, he added.

Since the founding of FOCAC, Chinese companies have utilized various funds to help African countries build and upgrade more than 10,000 km of railways, nearly 100,000 km of highways, nearly 1,000 bridges and 100 ports, and 66,000 km of power transmission and distribution network, according to a white paper titled “China and Africa in the New Era: A Partnership of Equals” released on Friday.

Building China-Africa community with a shared future

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations between China and African countries.

Hailing the spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation, Xi said it reflects the two sides’ experience of sharing weal and woe and serves as the source of strength for furthering China-Africa ties.

Over the past 65 years, China and Africa have forged unbreakable fraternity in the struggle against imperialism and colonialism, and embarked on a distinct path of cooperation in the journey toward development and revitalization, he said.

“Together, we have written a splendid chapter of mutual assistance amidst complex changes, and set a shining example for building a new type of international relations,” he said.

Xi put forward the principles of China’s Africa policy: sincerity, real results, amity and good faith, and pursuing the greater good and shared interests.

At the initiative of both China and African countries, FOCAC was inaugurated at its first Ministerial Conference in Beijing in October 2000, with the goals of responding to the challenges emerging from economic globalization and seeking common development.

FOCAC now has 55 members, comprising China, the 53 African countries that have diplomatic relations with China, and the AU Commission.

هيئة الأدب والنشر والترجمة تجمع كبار فلاسفة العالم في مؤتمر الرياض الدولي للفلسفة

PCBS: Decrease in Producer Price Index during October 2021

The overall Producer Price Index for Palestine reached 100.16 in October 2021 as it decreased by 0.81% compared to September 2021, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).

PCBS said in a press statement that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for locally consumed products reached 99.47 in October 2021, which indicates a decrease of 1.02% compared to September 2021.

PPI for local exported products reached 106.65 in October 2021, which indicates an increase of 1.06% compared to September 2021.

The changes of PPI for October 2021 were traced back to changes in prices of the following major activities compared to the previous month:

Palestinian official calls on foreign diplomats to intervene to stop Israeli house demolition in occupied Jerusalem

Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, Fadi Hidmi, today called on ambassadors and representatives of Western countries to intervene quickly to stop the dangerous Israeli escalation, represented in the demolition of Palestinian-owned homes and construction of illegal settlements in occupied East Jerusalem.

“I am writing to draw your attention to the dangerous escalation of house demolition decisions in parallel with the noticeable increase in the number of demolished houses since the beginning of this year,” Hidmi said in an urgent message to the ambassadors, consuls-general and representatives of Western countries to Palestine.

In his letter, the Palestinian official indicated that the Israeli District Court gave the green light to demolish dozens of homes in the Wadi Yasoul and al-Bashir areas in Silwan neighborhood, which threatens to displace hundreds of Palestinian citizens, a large part of them are children.

The minister said that the decision came after a Palestinian family was handed over a decision to demolish a residential building in Wadi Hilweh area in Silwan that includes four apartments and also contains a health clinic.

“In the neighborhood of al-Tur, 10 families face the threat of displacement after the decision of the occupation municipality to demolish their five-story building,” he pointed out.

Hidmi indicated that hundreds of other Palestinian-owned homes are at risk of demolition in the al-Bustan area of Silwan and other neighborhoods in the city.

“Since the beginning of this year, more than 139 buildings have been demolished in the city, and the demolition decisions are increasing significantly, while not a week passes without revealing new settlement projects on the occupied city,” the minister said.

He added that the danger of the decisions to evict Palestinians from their homes and the process of ethnic cleansing in the city include as well Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

President Abbas meets Qatar’s Emir in Doha

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas today met the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the Amiri Diwan Office in Doha.

President Abbas briefed the Emir of Qatar on the latest political developments on the Palestinian arena, with focus on persistent Israeli violations and encroachments upon of the holy places in Jerusalem.

He discussed with the Emir of Qatar strengthening bilateral relations and ways to develop them in all fields.

President Abbas arrived in the Qatari capital, Doha, at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar to attend the opening of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021.

Israeli authorities approve seizure of Palestinian land in Nablus area

Israeli authorities approved today a decision to take over Palestinian-owned land in the villages of Qaruot and al-Sawiyeh to the south of Nablus, according to a local activist.

Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors Israeli settlement activities in the north of the West Bank, said Israeli authorities approved a decision by which it will take over large swathes of Palestinian agricultural land in the said villages.

The Israeli authorities intend to construct a residential area, public utilities, and settler-only roads there.

Israeli settlers carry out provocative rally in Jerusalem’s Old City

Israeli settlers today evening carried out a provocative rally in al-Wad Street in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem.

Israeli police deployed their troops in the Old City of Jerusalem and conducted body searches on Palestinian youth in al-Wad Street.

Local sources said Israeli settlers also attempted to place a menorah on the walls of al-Kurd family home in sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, which is threatened with forcible eviction.

Settlers reportedly began playing music in a provocative manner in front of al-Kurd house.

Settlers earlier today destroyed drawings that residents have painted on the walls of homes threatened with forcible eviction in Sheikh Jarrah area.

Al-Kurd family is one of dozens of families threatened with forcible expulsion from their homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shiekh Jarrah.

Israel dismantles Palestinian house in Jerusalem

Israeli occupation authorities today dismantled a Palestinian house in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, according to local sources.

They said that Israeli police forced their way into Bir Ayoub area of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, and cordoned off a house belonging to Mohammad Zaytoon before municipal crews dismantled it.

The occupation authorities proceeded with dismantling the structure, which was erected five years ago, after Zaytoon had refused to tear it down himself, rendering his entire family, including three children, homeless.

The heavily-armed police officers prevented journalists from covering the event.

Meanwhile, Amir Rabay‘a was forced to self-demolish his house in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabbir to avoid paying exorbitant fines if the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem carries out the demolition on its own.

The two structures were torn down under the flimsy pretext of being built without licenses.

Using the pretext of illegal building, Israel demolishes houses on a regular basis to restrict Palestinian expansion in occupied Jerusalem.

At the same time, the municipality and government build tens of thousands of housing units in illegal settlements in East Jerusalem for Jews with a goal to offset the demographic balance in favor of the Jewish settlers in the occupied city.

Although Palestinians in East Jerusalem, a part of the internationally recognized Palestinian Territory that has been subject to Israeli military occupation since 1967, they are denied their citizenship rights and are instead classified only as “residents” whose permits can be revoked if they move away from the city for more than a few years.

They are also discriminated against in all aspects of life including housing, employment and services, and are unable to access services in the West Bank due to the construction of Israel’s separation wall.

According to a report by the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem, the Israeli High Court could be liable for war crimes for their policies that led to the dispossession of Palestinians from their properties in Area C of the West Bank.

The report, Fake Justice, shows that the court’s support of Israeli planning policy is tantamount to support for dispossession and forcible transfer of Palestinians, a war crime under international law.
