Newspapers Review: Israeli army killing of a Palestinian in Hebron highlight of dailies

The three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today highlighted the Israeli army killing of Nasim Abu Fouda, 26, in Hebron yesterday and said that he is the 35th victim of the Israeli army’s gunfire since the start of the year.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said among the 35 Palestinians shot dead by Israelis since the start of the year were eight minors and one woman.

Al-Ayyam said that the soldiers killed Abu Fouda in cold blood after opening fire at his car and hitting him in the head after he had stopped at a checkpoint.

Al-Quds said the settlers have waged several attacks against Palestinians, burning homes and cars, while the Israeli military issued demolition orders against 11 homes in the town of Deir Ballout.

Al-Ayyam said the Israeli army continued to throw a siege on the ancient city of Jericho for the third day in a row and has intensified measures at checkpoints around the occupied territories.

Al-Quds said 30 diplomats and representatives of rights organizations consider the demolition of Khan al-Ahmar community a war crime and call for ceasing this action.

It reported on the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to the region and his meetings with Israeli officials.

It quoted him calling for preserving the status quo in Jerusalem and for quick steps to prevent escalation.

The paper said the human rights group Adalah has filed an objection to Israeli and American parties against the plan to build the US embassy in Jerusalem on illegally confiscated Palestinian land.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestinian cabinet affirmed that it stands behind the leadership’s decision in confronting the Israeli aggression.

It said two demonstrations were held in New York and at Tel Aviv University against the Israeli aggression in the occupied territories.

It also said the Israeli parliament approved in the first reading to withdraw citizenship and residency of Palestinian freedom fighters.

Al-Ayyam said pressure from Jewish groups has forced organizers in a French city to cancel a speech by Palestinian-French lawyer and activist, Salah Hammouri, deported by Israel.
