Vestas wins 373 MW order in South Africa featuring the first V163-4.5 MW wind turbines

SANDTON, SOUTH AFRICA – EQS Newswire – 14 March 2023 – Independent power producer Red Rocket has placed a 373 MW order for the Brandvalley, Rietkloof and Wolf wind parks, to be located in Western Cape and Eastern Cape, South Africa. The contract includes the supply and installation of 64 V150-4.5 MW wind turbines, 12 V163-4.5 MW wind turbines and five V162-6.2 MW Enventus wind turbines. Vestas will service the wind parks through a 15-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) agreement.

Red Rocket’s CEO, Matteo Brambilla said: “Red Rocket has been investing and supporting South Africa’s electricity crisis for more than a decade and with a portfolio of more than 1,000 MW of wind, hydro and solar projects under development, in construction or in operation in the country, we are delighted to continue making a significant contribution to South Africa and the rest of the continent.” Brambilla added: “The projects will bring a 740-million-rand community investment over 20 years through local social projects. The wind farms will start operating in 2024”.

The order includes the first installations globally of the V163-4.5 MW wind turbine from Vestas’ 4 MW platform. Featuring an 18 per cent increase in swept area, the V163-4.5 MW has a large rotor-size-to-rating ratio resulting in a higher capacity factor, enabling up to 10 percent higher Annual Energy Production at park level compared to the V150-4.5 MW depending on site-specific conditions. This increases power output at lower wind speeds significantly and improves predictability and stability in production, optimising the utilisation of the wind park as well as benefitting the energy grid.

Falls Church, Va., March 13, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Residents living in condominiums, homeowners associations, and housing cooperatives could be facing increased assessments due to growing operating costs and expenses. According to a new survey by the Foundation for Community Association Research, 91% of community association managers, professionals, and homeowners surveyed report they are seeing unexpected increases in expenses due to rising costs and inflation.

Released today, the Foundation’s “Rising Costs in Community Associations” survey is the direct feedback from international community association board members, managers, and business partners— including accountants, reserve study professionals, and service providers.

According to survey respondents, management fees (92%), insurance premiums (91%), maintenance services (85%), staffing (74%), landscape services (72%), and reserve funding (64%) are the areas with the largest increases in costs.

When asked how they planned to address the unexpected costs, 73% of respondents report they plan to raise assessments, while 41% say they plan to reduce expenses, and 15% will lower their reserve funding contributions.

Forty percent of survey respondents plan to defer maintenance projects, and 31% are reducing landscaping programs, while 18% plan to reduce legal fees, and 14% will reduce community amenities. Renegotiating contracts, prioritizing projects, investing in energy efficiency, special assessments, utilizing contingency funds, and exploring bank loans are other efforts being considered.

As inflation continues to drive up material and supply costs, 87% of community association management companies say they plan to increase their fees this year, and 39% of these companies say their bids and proposals for community association services don’t expire.

The report further outlines best practices and considerations for communities when forecasting a financial plan, including current inflation conditions directly impacting condominiums and homeowners associations.

“As we witness inflation’s impact on the housing market, the results give us a better understanding of how these economic factors are challenging residents and the professionals who serve condominiums and homeowners associations,” says Dawn. Foreign Ministry says world should prevent return of Israelis to evacuated West Bank settlements

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates today condemned the Israeli parliament’s, the Knesset, approval in the first reading of a draft law that calls for the cancellation of the so-called “Disengagement Law” that would allow Israelis to return to settlements evacuated in 2005 in the north of the West Bank, calling on the world to pressure Israel to prevent the enacting of this law.

‘Proceeding with steps to enact this legislation is a dangerous escalation in the conflict and a belittling of the efforts exerted to reduce tension and achieve calm,’ it said in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry called on the international community and the US administration to exert real pressure on the Israeli government to stop this process, stressing that Israel’s continued impunity pushes it to escalate its illegal unilateral steps and measures, which can lead to an explosion in conflict.

The Knesset last night approved in the first reading by 40 in favor and 17 against the amendment to the Disengagement Law, which provides for the possibility of the return of settlers to the areas of the northern West Bank evacuated in 2005. The aim of this proposal is to allow settlers to remain in the former Homesh settlement outpost vacated during the disengagement period.

The proposal will not apply to the territory of the Gaza Strip also evacuated in 2005.

Prime Minister: Israeli governments’ political agenda based on extremism against Palestinians

Israeli governments’ political agenda is based on extremism against the Palestinian people, Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh stated on Tuesday.

Speaking during a meeting with the Swedish consul-general Julius Lilleström at the Prime Minister’s Office in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, Prime Minister Shtayyeh said that the successive Israeli governments have been adopting a political agenda that promotes competition for radical ization and aggression against the Palestinian people and their rights, including as manifested in more extrajudicial killings, detentions, incursions and land grab to make room for colonial settlement construction.

He added that the Palestinian people and leadership currently face the most openly extreme right-wing Israeli government whose all component parties are fundamentalist, while pointing that recent settler violent attacks across the occupied territories, including the February 26 Huwwara pogrom, were committed under the army protection and with government support, and hence there was no distinction between a settler and a uniform Israeli occupation soldier.

He stressed the necessity of exerting international pressure on Israel to end its occupation’s unilateral measures and abide by all signed agreements, including with regards to allowing all Palestinians, including the inhabitants of East Jerusalem, to participate in elections.

He concluded by exploring with the Swedish diplomat the prospects of strengthening joint cooperation and supporting the implementation of Palestinian development projects.

Consumer Price Index in Palestine up by almost one percentage point during February – PCBS

The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Palestine during February recorded an increase of 0.90% compared with January, today said the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).

It said the increase in CPI was a result of the increase in the prices of fresh chicken, fresh fruits and vegetables, dried vegetables, and eggs.

The West Bank has an increase of 0.99%, the Gaza Strip 0.95%, and a 0.32% increase in parts of Jerusalem.

The Palestinian CPI during February 2023 increased by 4.03% compared with February 2022 (4.71% in the West Bank, 4.05% in Jerusalem, and by 1.87% in Gaza Strip).

Weather: Cold low-pressure front hits Palestine dropping temperatures and bringing rain

A cold low-pressure front affects Palestine today bringing a significant drop in temperature and cold conditions with rain, thunderstorms and possibly hail in most areas, according to the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

Winds are southeasterly to westerly, moderate to active, and sea waves are medium to high.

Temperature in the capital, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 15°C and a low of 7°C, and in Ramallah and Hebron a high of 14°C and a low of 6°C are expected. In Jericho, the Dead Sea, and the Jordan Valley temperature is expected to reach a high of 24°C and a low of 13°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 20°C and a low of 11°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

The country remains under the effect of the low-pressure front tomorrow, Wednesday, with another drop in the temperature becoming 5°C below the seasonal average. Rain and occasional thunderstorms are expected in most areas, which recede at night.

Moderate spring conditions return on Thursday as the temperature rises again to become around the seasonal average.

Another rise in temperature is expected on Friday to become slightly above the seasonal average, said the PMD, which warned people of floods in valleys and low areas, mainly in the eastern parts of the country, slippery roads and low horizontal visibility.

Israeli occupation forces detain 13 Palestinians, eight of them from occupied East Jerusalem area

The Israeli occupation forces today detained at least 13 Palestinians in the occupied territories, eight of them from the Jerusalem area, according to various sources.

In addition to the eight who were detained from Shufat refugee camp and nearby Anata, two others were detained from the town of Yatta in the southern West Bank Hebron governorate, one from the town of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, and another from the town of Habla, south of Qalqilya in the north of the West Bank.

Soldiers also detained a 27-year-old Palestinian in a raid at his home in the ancient city of Jericho, east of the West Bank.

Bulldozers of the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem tear down a two-apartment Palestinian-owned building

Bulldozers of the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem today tore down a two-apartment building belonging to a Palestinian man and his sister in Sur Baher neighborhood to the south of occupied Jerusalem under the pretext of construction without a permit, according to local sources.

As a result of the demolition, 12 people were displaced, said the sources.

The apartments were 90 square meters each.

The Israeli demolition policy in occupied Jerusalem has recently witnessed a significant rise; including the demolition of homes and issuance of demolition orders citing the lack of an Israeli-issued permit.
