Jordan basketball team in Philippines prepping for World Cup

The Jordan men’s national basketball team has commenced their training in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, for the Basketball World Cup’s 19th edition, which will commence on Friday. The tournament will be co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia. During a press conference held on Thursday, Coach Wesam Al-Sous expressed his delight in being the first local coach to lead the national team in the World Cup, adding that the players are in high spirits and eagerly anticipating the start of the competitions. Next Saturday, the Falcons will play their debut match against Greece in the third group competition, which also includes the United States and New Zealand, said national team player Zaid Abbas, who expressed his joy in participating in the World Cup for the third time throughout his career.

Starting World Cup picking wedges in South Africa with Yemeni participation

The World Cup peg-picking competitions will be organized tomorrow, Thursday, by the International Federation of the game will start in George, South Africa, and will continue until next Sunday.

Nine teams, along with Yemen, will participate in the World Cup: Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India, Norway and South Africa (the host).

The technical meeting of the participating teams was held today,Wednesday, in the presence of the President of the International Picketing Federation, Muhammad bin Issa Al-Fayrouz, representatives of the participating countries, and the Referees and Organizing Committees, to discuss the list of competitions and the championship system, followed by conducting a veterinary examination on the horses and drawing the lottery for entering the teams and horses.

The national team delegation, headed by Assistant Undersecretary of the Sports Sector at the Ministry of Youth, Kamal Al-Sharif, includes the knights Bilal Al-Sabri, Abdullah Al-Maghrabi, Osama Al-Hamzi, Bilal Al-Safani, Abdulaziz Omar, and the national coach, Jamal Al-Taweel.

Sports race to promote importance of returning to school concept in Amanat Al Asimah

The Education Sector of the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the Education Office in the capital Sana’a, organized today,Monday, a sports race for school students to enhance the concept of the importance of returning to school.

A thousand students participated in the race that started from Al-Ahly Club Square, passing through Taiz Street, the thirtieth round, to the end point in the orphanage, round 45.

After the race, the Deputy Director of the Office of Education in the Municipality, Hafez Ibrahim, the Director of School Activities in the Office, Khaled Al-Aqabi, his deputy Abdullah Al-Madani, the heads of the activities departments in the office , the educational areas in the directorates, a large group of principals, supervisors and students of the participating schools, honored the winners with colored cups and medals.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Elected Vice President of Arab Football Association

HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani was elected by acclamation Vice-President of the Arab Football Association for Asia Continent for the current electoral cycle that extends until 2025.

This came on the margin of the 27th meeting of the Arab Football Association General Assembly, which was held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Late July, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced the candidacy of HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani for the position of Vice-President of the Arab Football Association and for membership of the Arab Football Association Council for the current session.

His Excellency also won the membership of the Executive Council of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) for Asia, in the elections that took place during the 33rd General Assembly of the Asian Confederation, which was held last February.

Qatar Wins Gold and Silver Medal at Korea Taekwondo Championship

Qatari taekwondo player, Noor Nizar, clinched the gold medal in the South Korea Open Championship for taekwondo, which concludes tomorrow with the participation of 355 players representing 29 countries.

Noor secured the gold in the female sparring category in the over 68 kg weight class after defeating Canadian athlete Lauren Hong in the final match.

Meanwhile, Qatari player Othman Boularas won the silver medal in the poomsae category for men.

Both Qatari taekwondo players will also participate in the Shangjun Korean Championship from 8 to 14 of this month as part of their preparations for the Beach World Championship, which will take place in Korea from 18 to 20 August.

It’s worth mentioning that Othman Boularas is gearing up for the Asian Games scheduled from 23 September to 8 October in China in the poomsae category.

AFC Cup Qualification Kicks Off August 8

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced today that the competition for qualification to the group stage of the 2023/2024 AFC Cup will kick off on August 8.

Seven teams will compete for the seven qualification spots across all five Asian regions. The matches will be played over two legs, with the winner of each tie advancing to the next round.

The first match will be between Machhindra, the two-time Nepalese Premier League champions, and Bhutanese team Paro, who are participating in the preliminary stage for the third time. The match will take place at Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu on August 8.

The winner of this encounter will then face India’s Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the second round of the preliminary stage on August 16. Mohun Bagan, seeking qualification for the seventh time, will be a formidable opponent.

The victorious team will then progress to the playoff stage for the South Asia region, where they will meet the winner of the match between Abahani Limited Dhaka from Bangladesh and Eagles from the Maldives. This encounter is scheduled for August 15.

In the Central Asia region, there will be only one match in the preliminary stage, with Turkmenistan’s Merw hosting Alay from Kyrgyzstan on August 15.

The winner of this match will advance to the decisive playoff encounter against Tajikistan’s Khujand, which will be held on August 22 in Tajikistan.

The journey for the four teams in the ASEAN region will begin on August 16. Cambodian team Phnom Penh Crown will face Laos’ Young Elephants.

In the other preliminary match, Myanmar’s Yangon United will compete with DPMM FC from Brunei Darussalam. Both matches will be held on August 16.

The winners of these encounters will continue their quest in the playoff stage, with Tampines Rovers from Singapore facing PSMS Medan from Indonesia.

In the West Asia region, the matches on August 22 will see Bahrain’s Al Khalidiya facing Oman’s Al Nahda in Manama. Meanwhile, Palestine’s Shabab Al-Khalil will play against Syria’s Al-Ahli in a neutral ground to secure a spot in the group stage.

The final qualifying spot for the East region will be determined by the winner of the match between Montedio Yamagata from Macau and Taichung Futuro from Chinese Taipei. The match will take place at Macau Olympic Stadium, and both teams are aiming to make their first-ever appearance in the AFC Cup.

The draw for the group stage of the continental championship will take place on August 24.

Football: Chelsea Sign Disasi from Monaco

Chelsea has officially signed French defender Axel Disasi from Monaco for the upcoming 2023/2024 football season. The six-season deal aims to strengthen the team’s defense and prepare them for the new season.

The signing of Disasi comes as a response to the absence of injured defender Wesley Fofana, as confirmed by Chelsea’s coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Disasi was recently part of the French national team, selected by manager Didier Deschamps, for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022. Although France made it to the final, they were defeated by Argentina.

In the previous Premier League season, Chelsea finished in the 12th position with 44 points. The addition of Disasi is expected to enhance the team’s defensive capabilities and boost their performance in the upcoming season.

QTTA President Praises Closing Event of Asian Table Tennis Championship

President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA), President of the Arab and Asian Federations, First Vice President of the International Federation Khalil bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi said that he was happy with the closing event of the Asian Table Tennis Championship that was concluded at the Women’s Sports Committee hall in Aspire Zone today, praising the great competition witnessed by all categories, whether in teams or in singles and doubles.

Talking to Qatar News Agency Al Mohannadi noted the great participation in this tournament that exceeded 300 participants, including coaches, administrators and players. The Asian champions were keen to be present in order to qualify for the World Championship to be hosted by Slovenia in November, he said.

He added that the Qatari players have benefited greatly from this participation as they played against this group of distinguished players and world champions.

He stressed that the QTTA was able to prepare and organize the tournament in record time after Iraq was unable to host it, thanks to the working team that has a lot of capabilities and experience and made a great effort that contributed to the success of the tournament in the best way.

For his part, head of the national teams committee of the QTTA and a member of the Board of Directors Thani Al Zaraa said the continental competitions were marked by the emergence of many champions who will have a great importance during the World Youth Championship, noting that the Chinese team claimed most of the first places.

Speaking to QNA after the crowning ceremony, Al Zaraa said that strong levels were presented during the championship, through which many male and female players in various categories were able to qualify for the World Championship to be held in Slovenia this year.

He continued by saying that they have received great praise from all the heads of the federations, adding the amazing tournaments organized by Qatar always witness a huge presence from all officials in the world in light of the high quality of the organization.

Al Rayyan Beat Budapest Honved Squad Friendly in Preparation for New Season

Al Rayyan beat Budapest Honved squad 2-1 on Saturday in the friendly match in Austria during its camp held in preparation for QNB Stars League for the 2023-2024 season.

Ahmed Al Rawi scored the two goals for Al Rayyan in this match which is the first game for Al Rayyan during its camp started on Jul. 17 until Aug. 7.

The team is set to play five games against Saudi Al Fayha on Tuesday, Saudi Al Ahli on Jul. 28, and will face Hungarian Haladas on Jul. 31.

Qatar Defeat Poland 2-1 in Beach Handball Global Tour

Qatar beach handball team defeated Polish counterpart 2-1 in their match today in the third stage of the two-day world tour.

The teams of Qatar, Croatia, Denmark and Poland are participating in this stage.

The Qatari team played a second match today against the Danish team, which ended with a 2-0 victory for Denmark.

The Qatari team will take on Croatian team in the third match on Sunday. The third place and fourth place match will be held on the same day, followed by the final match.

AFC Wraps Up Elite Futsal Referees Course 2023

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has successfully concluded the AFC elite futsal referees course 2023.

Held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with the participation of an elite of futsal referees, the five-day course included theoretical and practical sessions to promote the participants skills and maintain AFC ambition to be a pioneering federation in the world.

The referees engaged in many activities during the course period which tested their understanding of game rules, as well as their physical fitness and analytical abilities.

Arab Games Algeria 2023/ QHA President Hails Golden Achievement Made by Qatar Team

President of the Qatar Handball Association (QHA) Ahmed Al Shaabi expressed his happiness at Qatar team’s win of the handball competition title in the Arab Games Algeria 2023 after beating Saudi Arabia 37-24 in the final game held on Friday in Oran.

Winning the first Arab title in the history of Qatari handball is a vital achievement to be added to the list of successes made by Qatar, notwithstanding the overwhelming challenges the team encountered, Al Shaabi said, adding that the results were based on the intended aspirations as the team showcased a striking level and won all games with only one loss in front of Algeria.

Qatari players were really champions who competed with a high spirit after they had realized that they would win the title and gain the Gold Medal in a challenging competition specially in the finals and semi-finals.

QHA President applauded the outstanding result made by the technical staff in dealing with competitors, appreciating the efforts exerted by the managerial staff in offering conducive and appropriate environments for the players to shine.

Assistant Secretary-General of the QHA Khalifa Tayseer underscored that the achievement made by the team was well-deserved despite the challenges they faced, including absence of players and injuries which compelled the coach to draw on young players.

The association is proud of the achievement made by Qatar who continues to shine by winning the Arab title for the first time, he said.

Leader of the Qatari team Wajdi Sinen said the striking level provided by the team gave a clear excellence to outperform competitors, especially in the final game where players exhibited an incredible performance and were very smart to handle the confrontation giving them a candid victory over a powerful team like Saudi Arabia which was about to win the title.

Sinen added that this landmark achievement is a gift to the Qatari people and handball fans, as the players are determined to exert intensive efforts to maintain the trailblazing at all levels.
