Journalist hit by a rubber bullet while coving Israeli army incursion into a Ramallah-area town

Israeli soldiers aimed at and hit with a rubber-coated metal bullet a Palestinian journalist while covering an incursion early this morning into the town of Beitunia, west of Ramallah, according to WAFA correspondent.

He said that the journalist, Yousef Shihadeh, was hit in the leg by a rubber bullet at a time there were no clashes in the area. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile in the south of the West Bank, soldiers opened fire and injured two Palestinians last night in the town of Halhoul, north of the city of Hebron, according to Palestinian security sources.

They said that soldiers stationed at a watchtower opened fire at a group of youths injuring two of them, one hit in the leg. They were taken to hospital for treatment.

Israeli municipality issues order to demolish mosque in occupied Jerusalem

The Israeli municipality issued today a decision to demolish a mosque in Isawiyya neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem.

According to WAFA correspondent in Jerusalem, the municipality notified caretakers of the al-Taqwa mosque, which is under construction, of the demolition order.

The municipality’s order states that the mosque, which is being constructed on an area of about 300 square meters, must be demolished within 15 days from the date of issuing the decision, under the pretext of not having a license.

Municipality staff, on January 3, placed a notice to stop construction works in the mosque.

Palestinian fishing boat comes under Israeli attack, forced to leave Gaza Sea

Israeli navy today evening opened fire at a Palestinian fishing boat sailing offshore the city of Gaza, said sources.

According to one of the fishermen, Israeli boats surrounded the boat while sailing within six nautical miles offshore the city of Gaza and proceeded to open fire at the boat and used water cannons against it, forcing the fishermen to return to shore.

Israelis forces constantly harass fishermen and farmers at border areas and prevent them from earning a living.

Stop construction on two houses, electric grid ordered in a town near Nablus

Two Palestinian residents of Beit Dajan town, to the east of the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, were ordered by the Israeli occupation authorities today to halt construction on their two houses, local sources said.

Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors settlement activities in the northern West Bank, said the Israeli authorities also issued a halt on the construction of an electricity grid that was being built by the village council.

Israeli forces demolish a house, other structures in Masafer Yatta community

Israeli forces demolished today a Palestinian-owned house, two water wells, and two sheds in the village of al-Fakhit in Masafer Yatta to the south of Hebron, in the south of the occupied West Bank, according to a local activist.

Coordinator of the Protection and Steadfastness Committees in Masafer Yatta, Fouad al-Amour, said the house was 100-square-meters in area and the sheds were used as barns for the livestock of two local residents.

Anti-settlement group wins Israeli court order preventing eviction of Palestinian families in Jordan Valley community

The Settlements and Wall Resistance Commission said today that it has obtained an Israeli court injunction preventing the Israeli forces from evicting five families from their homes in Khirbet Ibziq, in the northern Jordan Valley, or demolishing their tents.

The Commission’s legal advisor, Ayed Marrar, said the injunction concerns the five families whose facilities were demolished in late December and were forced out of their homes several times by the Israeli army under the pretext of conducting military drills in the area.

The injunction prohibits the army from forcing the families out of their homes, as well as demolishing or seizing their residential tents.

The five families have suffered over the past month and early this month from the continuous training of the Israeli army on their lands and between their homes. They were kicked out of their homes several times, in addition to demolishing their tents and facilities and destroying hundreds of dunums of their lands planted with rain-fed crops during the military exercises.

An 80-year-old Palestinian man dies after being held, beaten by Israeli soldiers in a village near Ramallah

An 80-year-old Palestinian man died early today after Israeli soldiers detained, blindfolded, and handcuffed him in the village of Jiljilya, north of the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, sources confirmed.

Fouad Moutee, head of the Jiljilya village council, told WAFA that Omar Abdalmajeed As’ad was going home after a visit to his relatives when Israeli soldiers stopped his vehicle and pulled him out of it, blindfolded, handcuffed, and harassed him before leaving him in a building that was under construction.

He said that the soldiers did the same to four other citizens, including workers and vegetable sellers, who were on their way to work in the early hours of the morning.

Moutee said that at approximately 4:30 in the morning, and after the Israeli soldiers had left the area, residents rushed to the building where the detainees were left to find the elderly man dead, holding the Israeli soldiers responsible for his death.

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and the Foreign Ministry have both condemned in two separate statements the army treatment of As’ad that led to his death, accusing the soldiers and settlers of espousing a terrorist approach in their treatment of Palestinians.

Weather: Another rise in temperature

Weather today in Palestine is partially cloudy and clear during the day to cold at night with another rise in temperature, according to the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

Winds are southwesterly, light to moderate, get active at times, and sea waves are low to medium.

Temperature in the capital, Jerusalem, and in Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 16°C and a low of 8°C, and in Ramallah and Hebron a high of 15°C and a low of 7°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea, and the Jordan Valley, temperature is expected to reach a high of 22°C and a low of 13°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 21°C and a low of 13°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

A drop in temperature is expected on Thursday as conditions become cold to very cold with rain expected to start in the afternoon in some areas and spread to most areas in Palestine during the night accompanied by thunderstorms, said the PMD.

A low-pressure polar front is expected on Friday, thus weather is expected to be cloudy with a significant drop in temperature, becoming 4°C less than the annual average. Scattered rain showers, along with thunderstorms and hail at times, are expected in most areas.
