The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates denounced the right-wing Dutch extremist Geert Wilders for his remarks that contradicted the rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to an independent state with sovereignty over their own territory, and for reflecting racist and ridiculous ideas that suggested a resolution to the Palestinian conflict could come at the expense of Jordan.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Sufian Qudah, said the racist parliamentarian’s provocative and abhorrent remarks are useless and have no impact other than validating his racism and extremism, which are products of a deplorable culture of hatred that everyone must oppose and denounce.

Qudah emphasized that the Dutch government needs to come out strongly against these remarks, which run counter to the friendly and respectful relationships that the two nations have built over the course of seven decades.

He drew attention to the representative’s long-standing and consistent racist statements, emphasizing that t
he ministry has previously denounced them and dealt with them immediately through Dutch government-approved methods.

TRC signs license to provide satellite Internet services

Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) signed a general class telecommunications license on Wednesday, with Starlink Jordan.

According to a TRC statement on Thursday, the agreement was based on the provisions of the Telecommunications Law and the instructions that enable Starlink to activate its satellite services in the Kingdom.

Starlink was licensed as an operating company in the local telecommunications market after it completed official papers with TRC, the statement said.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, TRC Chairman, Bassam Sarhan, said Starlink is expected to activate its satellites and provide satellite services commercially in Jordan during the next year.

Introducing these services in the Jordanian market is an “important “achievement in advancing the Kingdom’s communications sector at the national level, especially since Jordan is classified as one of the first countries to roll out these services to its local markets in the region, he pointed out.

Starlink, owned by SpaceX, will prov
ide satellite Internet services via satellites in low orbits as part of its global project called “Starlink” for Communications.

Sarhan noted the license came as a continuation of the experience of launching services successfully conducted late last year by Starlink in southern Jordan.

Sarhan added that Starlink was granted the license after obtaining the TRC’s necessary technical and regulatory approvals, which were carried out via satellites in low orbits, recording high numbers of data download speeds ranging from between 100 MB and 200 MB.

Additionally, he said satellite services will have a “positive” impact on various business sectors, due to their technical capabilities that allow coverage of all the Kingdom’s regions and ensure diversity of communications services provided to beneficiaries at a high level.

These services, he noted, also aim to cover remote areas, regions with small population densities, mining and drilling locations, as well as tourist, industrial and agricultural sites.

WHO, KSrelief sign Letter of Intent to scale up health response assistance in Gaza Strip

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) on Thursday signed a letter of intent to solidify their commitment to collaborative humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip.

The letter of intent, for US$ 10 million, was signed by Ahmed Al-Mandhari, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, and Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Supervisor General of KSrelief.

The document reflects the continued shared vision and dedication of both organizations to address urgent health needs of people in the Regionl, according to statement by WHO.

The support funded by KSrelief will be aligned with WHO’s operational plan for the occupied Palestinian territory, with a focus on ensuring the availability of life-saving medical supplies and equipment in the Gaza Strip, as well as fuel availability.

As deaths and injuries in the Gaza Strip continue to rise, this support will allow WHO to procure additional life-saving trauma supplies for delivery to health facilities in the Gaz
a Strip as soon as access is possible.

This response, however, is dependent on the unimpeded delivery of safe water, food, fuel and other humanitarian aid to health facilities, so that they can function and provide the life-saving health services that are desperately needed.

KSrelief is a long-standing partner of WHO, working to preserve health systems and facilitating the provision of life-saving services and supplies in emergency-affected countries and territories across the Region and beyond. Since 2016, WHO and KSrelief have collaborated on multiple health projects in emergency settings at a total cost of more than US$ 300 million.
