Former lawmaker among at least 30 Palestinians detained in sweeping Israeli raids in the occupied territories

Israeli occupation forces today detained at least 30 Palestinians, including a former lawmaker, in sweeping detention raids across the occupied territories, according to various sources.

They said that Israeli forces detained former Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) member, Hassan Yousef, 63, after breaking into his house in Beitunia town, west of Ramallah.

They also re-arrested two former prisoners after storming their houses in the central West Bank city of al-Bireh and another city resident after stopping him at King Hussein border crossing between the West Bank and Jordan as he was making his way back to home.

Soldiers also raided Beit Liqya village, southwest of Ramallah, and detained two men.

Soldiers detained two others from Ramallah and al-Bireh district, including a resident of al-Bireh.

In occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli security forces detained five Palestinians, including two former prisoners, after storming their homes in the Old City identified as Nasser Hidmi and Jihad Qous, social and political activists.

Police officers also showed up at the family house of a former prisoner in the Old City of Jerusalem’s area of Bab Hutta, thoroughly searched it and eventually assaulted and re-arrested the house’s owner along with his wife, leaving behind their two children alone. The couple was later released.

Two others were detained; an employee of the Jerusalem District Electricity Company from his workplace in the city and a teenager while he was in West Jerusalem, as confirmed by the Wadi Hilweh Information Center.

Forces stormed al-Eizariya town, east of the city, and detained one person.

Meanwhile, Israeli troops conducted multiple raids across the southern West Bank district of Hebron, resulting in the detention of seven people.

The detainees were identified as a resident of Deir Samet town, west of Hebron, a resident of Hebron city, and five residents, including two brothers, of Aroub refugee camp, north of Hebron city.

In Salfit district in the north of the West Bank, the soldiers carried out separate raids in Qarawat Bani Hassan and Biddya towns, northwest and southwest of Salfit city, resulting in the detention of two others.

In Nablus district, the soldiers detained one resident of the Ras Al-Ain area in the city of Nablus after shooting him. One Palestinian was killed in the ensuing violent confrontations.

Three others were detained; one from Nablus city and two others from Jamain town, southwest of the city.

Elsewhere in the northern West Bank, the sources confirmed a similar raid in Qalqilya city, resulting in the detention of another.
